Default Ed Deaver's passing

I'm sad to report that Ed Deaver passed away this morning at 4:50am after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. It was first symptomatic last February but not diagnosed until Memorial Day 08. He actually flew RC with us up until about a month ago when the ravages of the disease just made him too weak.

He was with his family and friends at the time of his passing. He was a master builder and avid pattern/IMAC pilot in the Master's classes. He will be truly missed by everyone! Not sure about the funeral arrangements yet...

I have many happy memories of hours spent with Ed debating the finer points of rules, judging, families, and life in general. I truly gained much from my friendship with him through the years when he was such a driver of pattern at Lubbock. All those days in the sun at Reese when he worked tirelessly to make the events enjoyable for all.

Ed was a fine example of the hobbyist and pattern purist; he enjoyed the pursuit of perfection.

Please communicate my condolences to his family at their loss.

We have lost a flier and friend. He will be missed by many in many states.

It’s very saddening to hear this. Ed was one of those guys that I was always glad to see and enjoyed hanging out with. When I began flying pattern Ed was already a Masters pilot, but even to an underclassman he always went out of his way to be helpful. His calm and analytical nature and view of pattern flying was very relaxing and reassuring. I learned a lot from our discussions, in fact, one Monday after a contest I got an unsolicited email from Ed recapping our discussion with a list of items he felt I should work on, along with a phone number if I wanted to talk to him. How many guys do that?

One memory I’ll always have of Ed is when he would call for me he could sense when I was getting uptight and between maneuvers he would calmly say, “OK, take a deep breath… relax…”, and it would work.

Ed, your passing is a great loss to our community, I’m really going to miss you.

Ed was a great guy. Unfortunately I only got to fly with him twice after I moved to TX, but we exchanged emails quite often discussing about anything imagineable. I really enjoyed our conversations and the opportunity I had to meet and spend time with him.

Godspeed Ed..
