Mini Pattern

This may be the wrong area to dicuss this topic but I think it's a good idea to mention " Mini Pattern" We just had our first mini pattern contest in Cullman Alabama and it was a blast. Small planes, fun manuevers, and good folks make for a fun day. I would advise all who may be interested in going to the mini pattern website and find out the rules, patterns, and types of engines and plane combinations allowed. It is a pleasure to have a one day contest with a variety of different planes as well as challenging maneuvers. You don't have to spend a small fortune on sophisticated planes/ engines etc. Don't get me wrong, I love the SPA but this was a real treat. !!

Thats interesting. For me a 2m pattern plane with the quality I want is too costly, but I have began to investigate the discipline of true pattern flying. I have a "fashion 50" and friend has a "groovy 50". Both fly better than average sport planes, but they're hard to present properly in the wind and get small real quick!
But these planes readily accepted our efforts at precision setting up and trimming, and satisfied our determination to be as meticulous as possible.
For mini pattern I'd consider limiting engine size to 2-stroke .61, 4-stroke 82. This includes the most popular choices...YS 63, OS 70 & 60 fx/55 ax, Satio 82.
.46 ax is not enough power.

Hold on there partner! Your saying the OS 46 AX is to weak? Sir I have one on a Das Litle Stik that will pull 7 lbs. of thrust at 15k. and that is not quite leaned out all the way. The planes your going to need for the engines you just mentioned are all capable of pulling our original SPA planes with great authority and for some reason I don't think we would classify a Mach 1 as a mini pattern plane.

This is as good a place as any to post this stuff. If you generate enough interest, you may get a sub-forum, like SPA has.
I'm interested, but unfortunatly, it seems to be an east coast thing so far.

What's the deal. Are the people on the East coast the only ones awake? Why not take control yourself and start something? I'm proposing this at our next club meeting and see if it sticks. Even in our club most of the members are waiting for someone else to start something and do all the work. I envy the clubs that are excited about the hobby and having interaction between one another.

Go...go...go.....buildbetter pilots! There is NOTHING wrong with doing aerobatic competition on a lower budget...excellent move. I fly 2 meter and a littleSPA myself....I love aerobatics and am limited by the normal things - time-work-money.....I understand
Great idea, hopefully it will catch on and prettier flying will be the result!
