Default 1st ever RC Pattern Contest On-Line

Ok, based on the level of interest I've been getting for this new virtual RC world - Take part in the first of its kind, RC pattern contest on-line. Get your simulators loaded, get your plane adjusted, and lets go!

Registration is now open. You can e-mail me off line and I'll set up a flight order. We'll be flying at the Phoenix RC simulator (mulit-player), Moscow, Italy with a pilots meeting starting at 7 PM Eastern Time, this Saturday evening. Registration in advance is preferred, as I'll likely set up a password on the session to avoid mid-airs. Depending on interest level we can either do it on one session or set up multiple sessions for each class. Would need assistant line directors for each class in that event. We'll plan on contestant judging.

Cheers,
Don

No password please! What about spectators! :-) Just use verbal abuse to get rid of low-flyers!

I am really interested to see how this would work, just a shame for us 7 PM is 01 AM for us.

best of luck!

Well, this is really breaking new ground here. Depending on interest, we can host a follow on competition which would be a different time to accommodate more international timezones.

I am interested in future contests. Don't have Phoenix yet but planning on getting it at some point, maybe after tax season.

We still have slots open for the contest tomorrow night. Come out this evening and let's practice. Open flying. 7 PM Eastern time tonight. I'll set up the field.

So far we have two entered in FAI, and two entered in Advanced, plus two more (TBD if their simulators arrive in time).

See you,

Don

I'd be there but none of my PC's will read the disc. I hope to exchange it tomorrow.

We'll use contestant judging, depending on how many contestants we have. We have a foot of snow already, so will have to work this at home after shoveling in the morning. Judges should e-mail scores directly. For those practicing tomorrow, we found that flying at about 100 meters out presents the best and has the closest timing to an actual flight. Integral flies pretty good, but there are one or two other models that could be used.

So far registered we have 3 in FAI, 2 in Advanced. Several others may be coming on line tomorrow. Should be exciting.

Well, its official. The first ever RC online pattern contest is complete and was a complete success. We had three entered in FAI and two in Advanced. I anticipate we will do it again in a couple weeks, with more participants. It was a total blast. The nervousness, the anticipation, ready box, corrections, centering, totally a blast.

I'll post scores and standings when they are calculated.

Don,
Thanks for hosting the contest. It was alot of fun and proved the concept can work. It was great being a part of something brand new.
I look forward to the next one.

That's outstanding. Does the sim allow spectators, or is there a limit to how many can be in the session? My sim is due to arrive on Monday. I've never seen anyone fly a pattern schedule. Ifigure this could be a good way to see it done. Jim

Attached are the final standings. AC came on strong at the end for a solid finish.

I'll post some settings for the Integral, which may be helpful. I'll also see if I can get the Phoenix RC folks to upload a Black Magic VF3 as soon as I'm done making a few more adjustments. It's in the ballpark (if I can prevent Joseph to keeping on changing the YS to electric).

Limit is 8 per session. There should be enough room- We'll have a second session (like a contest- one session for each of two flight lines so we can fly simultaneously, just like a real contest). Pilots should be able to enter and exit each session depending on whether they are judging, flying or spectating.

Also, we'll make the contest earlier in the day to allow European competitors (its like 4 in the morning right now in the UK).

Cheers!

So what are the rules going to be for competing in classes? Same rules as in real life, or can I try intermediate and bounce back to sportsman if it's a handful?

I sent a mail to Phoenix RC suggesting they implement a box with possibly 45 degrees at centre as well. It should be very easy to implement, just 100m or so parallel to the runway. What would be the best way to approach them for this? Bombard with emails or do we have somebody close to these guys?
Now all I received back is a thank you, we wil consider note.

IF they would implement it, I think they'd have an instant success in the pattern community.

Don,

just to thank you for the email, I'm sorry I missed the gig, had a rough day and fell asleep []. So pleased it went good for you guy's!

I will be at the next comp though, that's a promise, even if I have to put matchsticks under my eyelids!

Great initiative, you should be proud

I have checked my multiplayer function though and it would appear that my router is causing some problems, like not allowing me to play on-line. I've checked the Phoenix web site and theres some gumf on there about router settings which I need to configure better get my techy head on and try and sort it out []

Just a thought, can anyone record the flights as they happen? would be good to show some footage of the comp!

VBR

Andy.
