Default HYDE LR85 Mount with YS170 CDI

Hello
It appears that on my Axiome model, the YS170 CDI which is installed on HYDE LR85 mount, when runs on idle, sever vibrations occurs on the rear part of the model. Is that is normal? Do others whom uses same setup have seen this?
Could it be that the HYDE LR85 is too soft for the YS170 CDI?

Amram,

This is totally normal. That is the purpose of the LR mount (limited rotation). At idle the engine is essentially hard mounted. This helps SIGNIFICANTLY with the low idle. The problem without the limiters is that the engine bounces around too much and unless you have the throttle servo attached to the mount the rotational forces will move the throttle just enough that you can't get the ultra low idle. Stuff bouncing around a lot at idle isn't nearly as sigificant as it would be at a much higher throttle setting. As soon as you start to advance the throttle and and the mount stretches, it moves off the stops and you get the full Hyde soft mount effect. I flew this mount all last year and this spring. I recently pulled all my servos to be send back to Futaba. With close to 300 flights, NONE of them needed the pots changed. They are Futaba BLS-154's, 254 and 352, so the mount is still doing its job, it just dances a lot with the idle ultra low. Mine really starts to shake with an idle of 1500 or lower. I can make mine idle consistently at 1350, but you can really see the plane dance as it is firmly sitting on the stops.

Hi Amram,

Is your Axiome a foam (Herex) version? Mine is a balsa version and suits the mount perfectly. Perhaps the Herex versions are less stiff? Only other thing I can think of is when you are idling, what rpm is this? If it is too low then your engine movement may be causing the mount to start to limit its travel, causing some shock to be passed to the airframe, causing a stuctural resonance. Mine idles at ~1800rpm without any issues. This might be exacerbated in very hot conditions where the rubber stiffness decreases with temperature?

Best wishes

Keith

I have the herex version with the YS mount as well as Tuny does, and ours do not have any tail vibration on idle, we are actually surprised at how quiet and solid the airplane is at idle.

Keith, I understand the Herex is the new type, is this correct?

it has crash my gears on my bls 551 and 451 and sloopy all over my new plane []
i have pull it out of ,my inspec and put back YS mount ,
i read its this is the best lr 85, ! but 200$ in my trash, mayby its a ´failure, with the mount??? so i hope i could get a new ..
i m not realy happy have it performs,, Ohh forgot,, its have a better sound only 89db at 3m as my Ys mount..
and fore ops.. the nose ring is not lose, and prop.. spinder is ballance..

Hi,

Yes Herex is the newer type. According to Shane in Ireland who has one of each the Herex one is ~150g lighter.

Best wishes

If you get the idle too low, it will rest on the limiters and you will see the plane bounce as it is essentially hard mounted. However, if there is a lot of vibration, I would bet that the idle is too rich. Mine even idling below 1400 RPM doesn't move a great deal. Yes, I fly a wood airframe, but it still isn't bad.

hallo
i meen the idle is not rice , 1 turn from flush at the pump.
the idle is 1500 -1550 ,, and its the mount/ motorbanging around!
and the Inspes is wood/ fiber
Do you see the video ? whatdo you think..

The vibrations are excesive on those videos, never seen a YS shake so much, what prop and fuel are you using? The YS mount in my Axiome works perfect, is very quiet and the header is about 3/8" from the cowl and does not touch it in any RPM.

Hi,

It could be that the undercarrige length is causing a resonance or vibration. If you tried a shorter undercarriage or support the undercarriage midway down the the leg it might go away. Just a thought ?
At low <1700rpm you will always get increased vibration.

Torben - the video where your hand is moving the motor back and forth clearly shows too much sloppyness in that particular motor mount.

Hey Torben,
Go to a local bicycle shop and pick up an inner tube that you can use to cut it in sections to stiffen that mount up. Do that and I think you'll find a big difference in the performance of the mount.

Alexandro - I moved to the Huntsville, AL area following the career. I'm still flying

What ever happened to your Xurama? Looking forward to some flight reports on that too (but I miss Miami !!!!)
