Default Pattern by the Wineries Contest - Napa, CA

Have you ever gone flying in the morning and wine tasting in the afternoon? If you have never done that before, then you owe it to yourself to attend our Napa contest on August 7th & 8th. Derek Koopowitz & Adrian Wong are proud to present the “Pattern by the Wineries Contest”.

Our club NBRC – North Bay Radio Control Club – is located next to a vineyard in the middle of the beautiful Sonoma/ Napa Valley.

6 rounds of AMA/ FAI (P-11) will be flown. FAI pilots will have the option of flying the F-11 sequence in the last two rounds on Sunday. However, scores will be normalized with the P-11 sequence's K-Factor.

The field will be available for practice on Friday. Come early to practice, then, take your wife or girlfriend for a sumptuous meal, wine tasting or shopping in the beautiful Napa Valley.

For more details, please visit District 7's website:- http://www.patternflying.com/NewsDetailPage.aspx?ID=93

Both the 20%/ 30% Cabernet Sauvignon or the Riesling from Coolpower Winery will be perfect with either a meat or a fish dish.

The 10% is more suitable with desserts.

The wine that comes from the vineyard next to the flying field is the best out there... it has aged quite well with a little mix of 30% Coolpower from the Proline that I had that crashed into the vineyard a couple of years ago. I've heard wonderful comments about the Rose!

For you, it's ok. However, you're in the middle of the wine country, so why would you want to have a Rhodies?

The Napa contest is fast approaching. I was up at the club practicing with my Team ACME partner - Woodie the Coyote - this morning, weather was absolutely perfect.

We are planning to have a BBQ dinner at the field after flying on Saturday. Tentative menu will be tri-tip steaks/ chicken breasts, potato & fruit salads. I understand Jon "The Sheriff" Carter will be serving his world famous - the Rhodies - drinks. Or, you can BYOB or BYOW - bring your own beers/ wines.

Tentative price is about $8.00, depending on how many participants. However, I must have at least 10 committed diners replying to me by no later than next Wednesday - the 4th. Otherwise, El Presidente Derek will not be willing to act as our head chef.

Please reply directly to - [email protected]

I'll know by Wed if we'll make it. The good news is Kelly has 'promised' me that we'll get rid of the family in time to go up there. Glad I bought that camper, the Sherrif's after hours beverages are dangerous! If he were a 'real' sherrif, I'd call it entrapment!!!

Should be a great time, I'll let you know for sure!

The field will be open for practice on Friday after 10 AM. As you're approaching the field, please slow down, as the road is quite bumpy.

As a reminder, bring your own lunch for both Sat & Sun. As for the Sat night BBQ, it's a no go, due to lack of interest.

Attached a few pix of the beautiful flying site.

Hope to see you there.

Adrian,

Is that the site in Napa that you almost took me to? Is that asphalt matting on the grass? Looks very interesting.

Hi Matt,

How are you?

Yes, that's the field.

The surface of the runway is covered with heavy duty tarps. One way to keep the cost down, I guess ...

Matt,

It's Petromat - fairly durable and lasts for several years. It beats having to reseal asphalt every couple of years...

I can say that it's a very nice field. I didn't even remember the runway not being a solid surface until it was brought up here.

Sorry, Jacob, no dinner at the field.

However, a few of us will probably head for a restaurant after flying.

Since you're not able to buy us drinks, guess your scores will stay the same. However, you can buy us dinner though ...

Depends how late the roadies are served and what time dinner is going to be. The bbq at the field would have been ideal for night flying. I will bring my stuff though, plus some foam.

Are you going there tomorrow during the day Jacob?

blah blah blah.. That's all I hear.

There will be night flying. Both inside, and outside our hotel! lol

You should fly Masters, I flew the Abbra today for the first time since late October at Arvin, and it wasn't pretty. At all.. lol. I just put some old analog servo's in on the ailerons. They gotta be 10 years old. lol. Gonna be interesting.

See ya early in the morning. Hopefully there's no fog. I need some test flights. May have to fly them in the fog though.

Due to overcast & low ceiling, we didn't get to start until after 10:00 this morning. However, because of lower than expected attendants - 15 - we managed to complete 4 rounds before the end of the day. The day started off with a slight breeze in the morning, but turned a bit windy in the afternoon. Here are some pix:-
