18th Pattern by the Bay Contest - Richmond, CA

It is hard to believe this will be our final year to host a pattern contest at our Richmond field. We have received an eviction notice from the East Bay Regional Parks Department advising us we have to vacate the premises after June 4th. Unfortunately, after many years of negotiation, they refuse neither to incorporate us into their system nor have any interest on helping us to relocate.

This year's contest will be on 5/5 - 6, attached link to the contest flyer - http://www.rcpilot.com/eventFlyers/184/2012%20BARCS.pdf

We will try to finish 4 rounds on Saturday, so pilots can make their return trip early on Sunday. If weather permits, flying will start at 9 on Saturday. Otherwise, we'll wait till the morning sun is out of the way.

Unfortunately, we're not able to provide lunch on both days. Therefore, please bring your own. However, there are a number of fast food restaurants within 10 minutes drive from the field.

Sportsman is allowed to fly any AMA legal planes - maximum 98db noise limitation on all planes.

FAI will be flying 4 rounds of P-13, and 2 rounds of F-13 with the best 3 of P-13 counting and the best F round counting to total up for the final score.

This will be Derek Koopowitz's 18th year as a CD, and my 17th as his assistant. We have had some real good contests in the past and hope to see many of you this year to join us celebrate and bit a fond farewell to this great flying site.

The field will be open for practice on Friday after 11:30. Any question please contact either:-

Adrian Wong - [email protected]

or

Derek Koopowitz - [email protected]

Hope to see you all.

Adrian

Adrian - Well, it looks like our 3rd Annual "Last" Pattern by the Bay contest is really going to be the "Last" one! It's really too bad that the Parks Department are being such wankers! Anyway, all of us "South Bay" people will be there to fly and celebrate the end of an era!

Thanks,

Thanks for posting this, Adrian...

You can register for the event by going to the [link=http://www.rcpilot.com/event_details.cfm?event_id=184]NSRCA Events[/link] page and filling out the registration information.

We hope to make this a "bang-up" last event for BARCS... good weather/flying and a time to kick off the 2012 season for us in the northern part of the district.

See you all in May!

Yes, Adrian, I did - Thanks. The tube was out of stock so only shipped yesterday, but I should be in the air in a couple of days (AFTER I run a thorough preflight checklist!).

I had a chance to fly at the BARCs field with Adrian Wong and Bill Sneed a couple weeks ago. Still a beautiful place, weather was great, sailboats in the 'Bay', Mount Tam on the west side of the Bay. Cool.

Kris F. and few of us were talking about heading to Nantucket Fish Market for dinner on Saturday - that's the little place under the Carquinez Bridge in Crockett.

You should all bring a small electric plane, we can have some formation flying after a few rounds of Rhoadies on Saturday afternoon.

This is what I will be flying:-

Just got home from Richmond contest. Wow, what fantanstic weather. Saturday evening, it was almost dead calm at the field, most of the day Saturday and Sunday it was a gentle wind from the NW, no problems. Great time, sadly this is probably the last contest for the Richmond BARCS. Thanks Derek and Adrian for a good time, great contest. Sorry to see this one disappear.

Thank you Derek for CD'ing this contest for so long! You are a great asset to our sport. It takes a lot of dedication to do everything that you have done for pattern for so long.. It's appreciated! Also a big thanks goes out to Adrian for all his hard work as always! It's also appreciated!

Sad to realize after I put my plane away after the 5th round that I had just flown my last flight at BARCS. Almost made me want to go ahead and fly the 6th and also a few more after the contest as it was perfect weather and the view of the bay is so hard to beat. The field and contest will be missed!!!!

A big thank you to all who attended our contest this past weekend, especially to those who continued to support us over the years, and a hearty congratulations to all the winners.

Well, nothing last forever. Hopefully, we'll be able to host our contest at some other field in the future. Unfortunately, it will never be the same without the beautiful San Francisco bay & the infamous howling wind - except this weekend.

Last but not least, thank you again Derek for CD'ing the contest for the past 18 years.

Here are some pix:-

Wow! What a weekend for a contest at BARCS. This was, sadly, our last contest at the field as we'll be shutting down the club on June 4th due to the Parks Department turning our wonderful site into a marsh. Oh well... this is one time I disagree with the environmentalists.

We had incredible weather for our event - temps were in the high 70's all weekend with little to no wind. 15 pilots came out to fly and I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting our event over the years. We also had a couple of other pilots (Mark Alexander and Ron Davies) that came out and helped to judge over the weekend and their support is also appreciated. Thank you to all those that judged and to my good friend and flying buddy, Adrian Wong, for again assisting me and helping out with the event for the past years... 18 years is a long time to host an event and unfortunately it took us 18 years to get the weather right! :D
