Flying Intermediate - Questions

Set Up:
2M Monolog
Hi-Max 6330-210
ICE II 80HV
APC 21x14.5
Two 5s, 5,000mAh
Flying Weight - 5,040g

Getting better acquainted with the 2M Monolog and plan to attend the Huntsville, AL contest in a couple weeks Sept 14/15...

There is nobody close to help with coaching so, I have questions about Intermediate...

What is a normal flight time for the sequence?

I flew two sequences in a light cross wind (5-10mph) and both flights were very near 6 minutes each from timer on (switched with the idle down function and prop turning before takeoff) to timer off at final approach for landing.

First pair of batteries I replaced 2,850mA (+/- 50mA) each; and, the other set I put 2,890mA back in one and the other I put back in 3,085. I might need to match up the batteries with regard to IR and keep them as a pair.

This seems kind of low on energy consumption and flight time… Probably need to work on getting bigger radii in the Reverse Cuban, Double I, and the Humpty Bump (Pull/Push/Push). Seems like my maneuvers could be taller and a bit slower…

Looking forward to your thoughts... :-)

Going to the field again this after-noon for more practice... :-)

Larry,

Actually, I think you're right on. Your power consumption appears to be average running that prop and motor if not a little high for a 6 minute flight (this can change due to throttle and speed in the air / size of maneuvers at a given distance ). In Advanced, I was burning about the same 2700-2800mah avg. and Masters is consuming 3200ish avg. for me depending on winds.

Larry,

You seem to be right where I would expect with that setup. I know a lot of people in Intermediate and Advanced are going with 4400 mah packs as they never use more than 3200 or so.

Thanks for all the responses...

FWIW... Although I attended the Weak Signals contest this past June 1st/2nd, I didn't log an official flight...

Last official contest flight - September 2010 (Zen 50)
Last official contest flight with a 2M Pattern Plane - September 2007 (Focus I)

Nice to get back into Pattern...

For what it's worth, flight times for the Master's sequence for me in calm to light wind averages 7 mins 30 secs. Running 2 TP 5,000 Mah 25C packs and putting back 3,000 - 3,250. When windy, averaging 3,400 - 3,550.

As Arch and Scott have already said, your numbers are right on the money. I'm flying 4400's and usually use between 2800 and 3200, depending on wind and maneuver size. I sometimes go as low as 2300, but that means I flew too slowly.
My buddy Bill uses more like 3400 on an average flight but he's using a different setup in a heavier airplane and is still not where he needs to be with throttle management.

Larry,

Like you, I'm returning to pattern and have decided on a 2M Monolog with same Motor/ESC as you. The only difference is I have a 20.5 x 14 prop.

I'm flying the Advanced sequence and am running 6 min. flights and burning out approximately 3150 each flight. I'm running 2 5S 4500 packs. Seems like the perfect combo for what I need. Good luck in Huntsville next month!

Kevin
