Spinner
Hi gents,
Curious to know if there are any sources for commercially available carbon fiber spinners for glow motors available in the US? The electric Falcon spinners seem strong enough to take a starter, though I'm not sure that the backplates would hold up to the beating of a YS. I'm not sure I want to be the intrepid individual that tries that for the first time. Ideally, the spinners should have an FAI profile or similar; the size I'm looking for is 82-85mm. Thank you in advance for the feedback. Best regards, Ryan |
Ryan,
I tried the Falcon on my old Partner with the 160 DZ in it, one back kick cracked the majority of the screw holes. I tried this one and it works just fine so far. http://www.graphtechrcshop.com/categ...?categoryId=32 Bill |
Ryan,
I have used the Camodel carbon spinner for years, actually I got the backplate reworked to loose weight and the spinner total weight was an average of 32gr, I never had a failure on it. Regards Alejandro |

I got it directly from Camodel in Argentina.
I will try to post some pictures later. Regards Alejandro P. |
Alejandro,
I would appreciate seeing pictures. It doesn't look like Marcelo has a glow spinner on his site, only electric. Can you confirm that you are using a starter on the spinner? |

Ryan,
Of course I am using a starter, there's no other way as theses engines are very dangerous if not done that way. Please note I use this spinners with the Kavan starter on 4SLiPo 2200mAh with the silicon insert, which is softer and has tremendous grip than the stock one, I just apply normal pressure to the spinner, never run the starter and hit the spinner ( I hate when I see that), usually my engines start instantly, but if someone needs to run the engine with the starter it can be done. I did just check Camodel's page, and as you mentioned they do not show the old type backplate, but I can tell you the new one seems strong enough, I guess you could ask if they still have the old type. Please note I have only ran the reworked one which is the lightest shown, I ran it for 4 year before I retired it, during that time I cracked the cone due to wear on the bolt hole, never failed , but changed anyway, that was on the third year I think. This is the stock one Backplate thickness is 2.5mm at the thinnest point (outboard) and 4.37mm at the Hub. Tappered from 4.37mm to 2.5mm. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2005807 This is the reworked one I used in the Osmose Evo then the Axiome both YS170 CDI ( I mentioned it was about 32gr, that was including the Tru turn bolt, and using the Tru Turn prop adapter) 1.66mm but the hub which is 2.3mm http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2005808 This is the latest one I got, which is strong enough 2.57mm at the thinnest point 4mm at the hub, tappered from 4mm to 2.57 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2005809 I hope this is useful, and please anyone needing more info just let me know. Regards Alejandro P. |
Thanks Alejandro!
I figured you were using a starter, but I wanted to make sure that this was the case. I recall Jon Lowe using a starter for the first run of the day, and flipping the motor against the compression for subsequent starts. I never was that brave. I will contact Marcelo for more information. Best regards, Ryan |
Ryan,
Please note the thickness of the backplates. Regards Alejandro P. |
Hi,
So to be clear. This spinner is the electric spinner you are using Alejandro? |
Hello Scott,
No, that used to be the one for everything, it's the first version, then they changed for the electric turbo backplate, but the one I show (turbo) is one of the newest and it is strong enough for the YS , if you have experience with the YS and the correct starting procedure which I am sure you and Ryan are, it should be ok. On the other hand I cannot recommend this setup to people who does not have a lot of experience. BTW, the bolt has to be filled down to a conical shape to fit the spinner. I can also recommend you to check the YS prop nut form Hobby Net is 10grs! Best regards Alejandro |
Thanks for the info Alejandro.
I'll check them out. |
Can you post a link to Hobby Net please.
|
Just look for this stock number, the URL only gets you to the index.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Hi Alejandro,
The spinners on the Camodel website have cut outs in the cone, which I presume is for coming on the electrics. It looks like the spinner In your pictures does not have these cut outs. Is there a option for no cut outs? Also what is the diameter? Scott |
Double post.
|
Hi Scott,
I will ask Marcelo, he probably have some, anyway the option used to be the holes. The Diameter is 81mm Regards Alejandro P. |
