Axiome + wing

Hi All,

I've recently badly damaged the wing from my Oxai Axiome + and as such is not repairable by me at least. The rest of the model is undamaged but consequently un-flyable. I have asked Oxai for a replacement but the wing is out of production. I wondered if there was anyone who would have a spare wing or could undertake to build a new wing for this model? It is the version with the curved leading edge. It's a bit complicated by the fact it is a custom paint job so I could send the wing over for paint matching as required.

Really hope to hear back from someone

Keith

Hi Keith,

Why don't you use the galactik wing instead

Sorry to hear that Keith.

How bad is the wing?

Hi Apereira,
I think its unsalvageable; see below!

Hi Mavros,
I beliebe the Galactika is a two piece wing whereas the Axiome + wing is one piece
Best wishes

Keith

Hi Keith,
I can't really tell how much damage there is from the photos, especially internally. Still, the wing is essentially intact. If there is a professional builder to be found locally, they could make a better assessment. I think papaone (his RCU handle) over in France could help, too ( he just built a very similar wing from scratch - it is in another thread here in the pattern forum). The existing wing could be reverse engineered to produce a replacement, too.
Good Luck!
-Will

Thanks for your reply Will, I think this pic might show the damage clearer. The wing is only held together by a portion of the top skin. Even repaired its doubtful it could be made cosmetically acceptable and as the models on the weight limit, its not worth pursuing.

Best wishes

Keith

that wing is totally repairable. I have fixed worse. CA the skins together to align the wing. then cut out top and bottom sections to splice the spars and leading and trailing edge. glass and refinish. should be able to keep the weight acceptable. the key is the approximation of the skins for proper alignment. Ca everything you can then go internal and fix it.

Hi,

Just an update from where I was a few months ago and thanks to you all for your messages of support. Wing is now fixed, a little heavier but not disastrously so. Just waiting for an opportunity to test fly...

Best wishes

Keith

Very nicely done!

Anthony-RCU 01-07-2016 09:49 AM

Nicely done! I understand the trepidation in undertaking this kind of repair. We spend so much on these and feel they are irreplaceable. Smashed the nose in of a ZN Hydeaway years ago. Pieced it all back together and won a Nats trophy with that plane the next year.
Now it is an Axiomme ++

apereira 01-09-2016 02:09 AM

Keith,

That is excellent!!

A job well done!

I hope I can see it fly soon.

Is this failure due to a collision or a design fault by the manufacturer?

Hello Mavros

Failure due to Manufacturer.
On Rodolphe Axiome and Loic Burbaud, It arrived after snap.
So Rodolphe was more unlucky, fuse was destroyed.

The only Axiomes in the UK now are Axiome + and my two other Axiomes, all in Optifuel regalia. No standard color scheme versions are around to my knowledge

Hello Keith

Loic Burbaud told me Robert Telford took the fuse at home near Bordeaux and the owner is Shane Robinson.

Hi Claude,

Aah that explains it, both Shane & Robert are over the water in Ireland! I know Shane & me were discussing making a Galaktica style wing for the Axiome fuselage. Its a great idea but I've very little time to do this at the moment. Shane will probably do it; he's only got two young twins to worry about !

Best wishes

Keith
