Hmmmm, I'll have to measure the setup on the one Hanno that I'm running. Overheating and blown plugs sure sound like your pipe length is too short. You're certainly not overpropping the engine. On my Hannos I found the needle setting got more critical as I increased the prop load (I've run a 13x11 on a Hanno - 13x10 is probably the max without going to 20% or more nitro). The Webra has about 33% more displacement than the Hanno. I've run the Bully 1.20 (basically a Webra) a lot and found it had MUCH different running characteristics than the smaller .60 sized Hanno. It prefers a bit more prop and lower rpm (15x 11 or 16x10 seem ideal) with a long pipe setting. Maybe your Webra wants more prop and a longer pipe length. I always run my engines as rich as possible. The Hanno hi-speed needle is much more sensitive than the one in the Webra carb, but I found I needed to lean the low-speed needle to get good mid-range transition and reliable high-speed needle settings especially with the Webra. I hope this helps - trying to fly pattern with a tempermental engine is just about impossible and dammed frustrating!!

I've gotten the figures from Webra directly now, and a LOT of help from people in this forum and on the flying field. Everyone states that a cooler plug, a little more nitro and a very much shorter pipe setup will give me the power I need. I'm currently at 58 cm from plug to first baffle on the Hatori 700. Webra say they get 10.400 RPM on a 12x11 and 10.000 with 12,5x11 APC props using the Webra pipe at 49-50 cm and 10% fuel. And I have had several people with Webra's and Hanno's saying that 50 cm is the way to go. Perhaps start a few cm long and work it in a cm at a time.

Thanks SO much to those who've pointed me in the right direction and gotten me the answers I needed. Hope to get to test this new setup this week.

Sorry to turn this into a Webra thread [&:]

I ran the engine now with the pipe shortened from 58 cm to 52 cm from plug to first baffle. I didn't have my tacho with me but I started it up and adjusted it two full turns out on the needle and BAM! There I was holding on for dear life! I'm going flying first chance I get now :D

so how did the Nordic turned out this weekend , i had to skip Sunday because one off my wing tubes was almost coming out on one off the wings!

Knut Jensen won, not a big surprise really... It looks like he's got gyros on every flying surface, it's that smooth. We saw him practice P-05 after the comp. so I hope he bumps up to F3A next season.
I was 13 out of 14 after my engine quit in an outside loop.

Getting there! Jon & Flywilly have probably given up on me, but my Skystar will fly before the seasons over!

Fuselage in primer, colors this weekend. Wing (and stab) complete, covered with Ultracote. Belly pan was glassed & painted. LG & wheelpants done. Color scheme will be similar to the Alliance pictured...

Using a YS 1.10, Johnson header & Mac's quiet pipe. 14-12 APC initially. Trusty JR 8103 radio...had planned on the new JR 9 channel but Horizon is as slow announcing that radio in the US as I have been slow in building. MK hardware.

Have had to fly my MK Alliance CP again this year...that's alright, this is the finest "45" size model in the entire history of the world. OK.. I may be biased~ but not many airplanes this size have bested 2M airplanes in competition(yeah...only Sportsman). 4 1/2 pounds, OS 50SX on an MK softmount, MK hardware, JR mid size coreless servos...sweet flyer.

Cool! You'll have tons of fun with the YS 1.10. I'm still tuning my Webra, experimenting with pipe lengths and plugs. The plane impresses me more and more, it's stable enough to make my flights look good and that's saying a lot 'cause I really don't fly all that well [8D]

Finally...mine is completed!

MK Skystar 90 powered by a YS 1.10
Trusty JR 8103 PCM, 4131 servos
Weighs 7 lbs 13 oz.

Would like to hear from anyone else how is flying or building either this model or the similar MK Super VR-90.

Considering what to build next, maybe the MK Topstar 2... but Piedmont's new "Splender" is intruiging ;)

Your Skystar looks great, Scott. At that weight, performance should be dazzling with a YS 110. I assume it flies as good as it looks!!

Hi Scott, congrats on a very fine looking aircraft! Nice job on the Canopy too!

I hope you'll have a lot of fun with it. I have to service my engine with new bearings but I can't wait to get it back in the air, it's a very smooth flier.
