RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
The only things I did to lighten it were: remove retracts and install Bolly CF gear |

It was the Bolly F3A Large... with their matching fiberglass wheel pants.
Made some 1/4 ply plates in front of the former and needed to add some plywood shims to make the gear 'level' when the plane was level. The shims weren't necessary but made the gear incidence zero. Kinda hard to explain, a picture is worth a 1000 words. I'll try to get some of those if you're interested. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Do you have any pics of the motor and pipe?

RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
ORIGINAL: swill I guess you can say East Atlanta... but not Atlanta RC. I fly at the Old Stone Mountain airport - Stone Mountain RC Flyers So you're flying over there with Bryan? Hmmmm I'm working on a new 2 meter myself, I may have to come down and join yaz. -Mike |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Yep, flying with Bryan. He's really great and is helping me break into pattern.
Feel free to join us ... www.smrcf.com Will try to get engine pics this weekend. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Yep Bryan called and we talked for about an hour last night. He's about got me convinced to come down there and fly with you guys when I get this plane finished. (Ask him about my junky wooden planes hehe). It's a bit of a drive for me, but it sounds worth it. Most fields around here aren't pattern friendly at all. If you don't hover a $50 POS over the pits, you're not welcome it seems. I've about had enough of that crap.
You gonna compete this year? Andersonville in June would be a great start. I won't be back to contests until late this year, I look like crap right now (I took a long, much needed hiatus). Burn some fuel and I'll see you guys in a couple of months. -Mike |

I know this isn't the shot of the firewall forward but it gives you a good pic of the landing gear installation...
Elevator and Rudder servos are Futaba 9206 and Throttle is JR DS3301. Ailerons are HS-5625MG (for now - will upgrade soon). Also using a Tettra tank. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Tached the engine today... it's breaking in nicely. Set my idle comfortably at 1640 now and top end was 8850. I got the idle down a little more but was comfortable with what I had. Using 15% Wildcat (80/20 mix) and OS F plug. With a 460cc tank, I estimate flight times to be in the 13-14 min range. I flew 10 min and had enough for a few more minutes.

RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
What prop were you using?
|
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Oops, sorry - the most important piece of info! APC 16-11, 2 3/4" TT spinner with light backplate (not that it makes a difference). I have a APC 16-12 that I want to try someday, too. My tach is the built in tach in the Futaba 9Z WC2 transmitter.
|
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
That's a pretty good number for that prop.
|
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Hey tph1 I am getting a Quest 3D and i will be putting a TT120R in it .
Plan on flying sportsman class with it. Also will have a tuned pipe and header I think it will be a good combo. Will post report on it at a later date. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
hey swill,
can you give us a shot of the TT header and Pipe you're using. also the underside of the wing where you covered up the retract wells. what's the best way to do that, by the way? |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
If anybody needs one, I have a TT120 Pro RE with CD cannister and macs header I'll let go real cheap. Very quiet, very powerful. Has about 50 runs on it.

Here are pics as promised... finally!
Did not modify the pipe tunnel but my buddy Erik did on his to accomodate his Webra pipe on the Webra 145. Basically he eleveated the rear of the pipe and made a cutout in the belly pan and sheeted it. So the end result is the pipe angling downward towards the ground. Mine is flush with the bottom of the wing as you can see. I only made a small hole in the fiberglass fairing at the rear part of the pipe to accomdate the exhaust deflector. Will take more pics when I have the cowl off. Hope this works for now. I apologize for not getting these sooner. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Hey Combat, I bet that will be a good combo.
|
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
Swill,
Have you cut the header ? it's seeming short than normal one. |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
I just didn't use the 6" straight coupler. That's why it appears shorter.
I still have a very, very, very broad needle indicating the pipe may be too long?? |
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
If you shortened it a little your tach numbers would be more impressive or could get the same with more prop.
|
RE: Thunder Tiger 120 Pro question.
[:o]hi guys i have reply before i have two of then one on my EU-1 pattern ,what was the lenght that you guys got for header to the pipe .i bought mine from mack and the header came with an extra peace of pipe. am almost done all i need to do is to cover the wings an install my radio system.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
