New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

1 Attachment(s)
OTOP Xtreme!!

I just got a sneak peek at a new composite pattern plane that Planes Plus is working on. I over heard that the plane will be offered in different configurations, pattern specific and/or artistic aerobatic. The planes are painted in the mold and it is possible to get any scheme you want.

You can get the plane with both sets of wings and change per the event you are in. I understand the plane will be flown at the Hobby Expo in Las Vegas show this month. Planes Plus is looking for feed back, give Don a call at 630-904-9983 for more detailed information.

I am working on the new Dream 110 pattern design aroung the YS 110. This is a balsa and foam plane covered in Monokote, extremely light. I will have pictures tomorrow. I am working with Don and Andrew Jeskey to get the flight on the Dream 110 soon!

Hey Matt,

We are looking at 800-900 depending on paint scheme for one set of wings and 1200-1300 for the complete 2 wing package.

That is very reasonable from what I can tell so far. How would someone let them know ahich scheme they want, send a pic?

Hey Greg
how's the dream 110 coming? I talked to andrew about the OTOP flight. and he said it flew really well. The precision is real good even with the 3D wings.. So we have to see ,or at least I will .. DOn I want to Fly this bird!! dewey

This plane from what I am hearing looks like real winner. I guess the same guy that help design the Impact, gave a lot of input also into this bird. I am looking forward to seeing this plane fly

OK- someone come clean---
this rash of "new" pattern planes, looks like someone is just passing the molds around - grafting on inlets next to the nose and repainting em-
No?

These are very nice looking planes .. This one was at a comp last weekend..

First round ended badly as the fuse cracked all the way around 6 inches in front of the fin,was only about 2 1/2 inches holding the rest of the tail on.

Landed safely. Was a wright off.I didnt get a photo of the damage, wish i did now.

rgreen24 10-28-2004 08:51 AM

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

Hey Vortec do you know what happened why the fin broke. Did he have a mid-air with somone

Vortec 10-28-2004 10:07 PM

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

It wasnt a mid air he was flying the first round of masters on a single flight line and was about half way through(dont know what he was up to)and just as i looked at the plane in the air there was a big bang.He did a slow and low pass to see what was wrong but came around again and landed it and she was broken.

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

Hey Rgreen24,

This was my Otop plane that Vortec wrote about.

The model is fixable and will be flying again shortly, the reason for braking is still uncertain, the brake has come about a fatigue point in the body about 20cm in front of the tail. This fatigue at this time I believe has come from damage in transit from Thailand the Australia as the box that the fusalage was in was damaged.

When opened the box the model looked OK from the outside so I quickly finished the model and flew it. At the time it had only had 16 flights.

I must say Xtreme Composites have been very good in helping me out in trying to sought out want has happened so other people do not have this happen to them.

Hey Dauphin, apart from what happened to the plane. Did you like how it flies? Any bad tendancies?

Dauphin 11-09-2004 03:23 AM

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

Hey rgreen24,

The plane flew very well, it was the straightest and most efficent plane I have ever flown, straight out of the box. Just set the controls to have equal movements and it flys straight, pulls great verticals and does not screw out of very tight pos or neg loops.

It was light at 4.4Kgs ready to fly. That was using a OS 140RX and pipe, futuba servos and 1400 Dura Light battery and reg, 14 Oz tank and a 2 Oz header tank and a Hyde 140 ARA engine mount, nothing special.

If you get one you just need to play with the CG to get it to fly how you like it. Because it was light I found it to be better slightly nose forward CG to get it to penetrate in strong wind and turbulence. With the CG slightly forward the knife edge mixing was very small.

Thanks again for the reply!! It sounds like a great bird!!

Gregg G 11-09-2004 08:32 AM

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

Hey Dauphin,
Just curious, what's the reason for using a header tank on a pumped engine?

Dauphin 11-10-2004 03:58 AM

RE: New!OTOP Xtreme Composite Pattern Plane

Hey Gregg G,

I use the header tank to stop the engine grabing air from when the clunk is outside the fuel in the main tank, as the header tank feed line is solid and in the centre of the tank.

This just keeps the engine with a constant feed of fuel and I have more trust in it when pulling into torque rolls and sounds smoother during F3A schedules.

Sorry tph1,

I dont actualy own this plane. Dauphin owns the one i took photos of, so you'll have to ask him or any one else on this thread that has one about what comes with it.. ;)

Hi Dauphin,

Its very nice to meet you in the forum.

I also got one Otop and going to build it.

Would you like to tell me about flow rate ail, ele and rud.

I plan to use RX140 or FI 140.

Is it good for F3a? What about P-05 and F-05?

Thanks

James Hung
