RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I ran a test on my 4130/20 this afternoon with the 8s2p pack and a 17 x 12 APC E prop.
I got 61 amps, 1620 watts on my Astro Wattmeter. I had a tach and it read 4320 rpm but I don't think that is accurate due to florescent lights. This motor may be on the ragged edge in this application. I feel like I may need to try a different motor like the AXI 5320 or a Neumotor 1515/2y. I am now assembling two Infinities, mine and a very good freinds. We are both going electric. I weighed his and all the parts come in within 3 oz. of my plane. The airframe weight is only 4.15 lbs. Both these planes came from Russ at Pattern Proz. Russ always seems to get the new stuff first. I have run the trim iron around the planes and keep finding interesting construction details. The wing spars out near the servo bays are not solid, they are laser cut for lightness. I also found the stabs and rudder are built up, not solid foam. You could have fooled me when I first looked at them. Will start installing some gear tomorrow and will post pictures as I go along. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I am very seriously thinking about getting one of these. My first inclination is to go electric. I've got a Hacker B50-10XL which if I could keep the plane to 8-8.5 lbs should work with the right box and batts. But all I've got are TP 10s3p and 10s4p packs and I don't really want to spend money on more batts.
On the other hand...... Hey gas guys, I've got a NIB K&B 1.00 RE and a header deep in the dark recesses of my closet. I bought long ago for a project I never got around to. Would that work? Mike |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
What setup does the infinity 90 use for elevator?
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
From the pics of the supplied stuff, it looks like a CF pushrod set up.
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
The in the box hardware for the elevator is a carbon rod with two pushrods y'd to the elevator. I am using an MK bellcrank instead.
The rudder is pull/pull. The exits are already in the fuse for both. The rudder exits have nylon tubes installed at the exits. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
How hard is it going to be to get the MK bellcrank in there?
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I am in the process of installing the bellcranks now.
You must take out a little doubler wear the ply plate mounts inside the fuse. Simple to do through stab cutout. I will post pictures later today. My friend and I have decided to use Neumotor 1515/2Y with 5.2 gearing for power. Jeff |

Here are some pictures of the internal stab cutout doubler and hoe youhave to remove some of it to get the bellcrank ply supports in.

RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I think I'll use either the supplied pushrod or go pull/pull on the elevator. That other pic is pretty cool, a string in the aileron bay to pull the extention. How much room in the fuse to get a tank on the cg.?
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90

It appears it was designed to put the tank in the nose.

RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
thanks Jeff, I was afraid you'd say that. UMM is the enough room to cut out under the canopy floor and get one in there? I could always dark tint the canopy.
Tom |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
You could do that, but be sure you leave the cross brace shown in the picture. Without it, the fuse would be very weak at that point. There is no ply in the fuse sides, only balsa doublers and it is not rock hard like most ARF's.
Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
OK cool. Good call on the brace.

I was a little concerned about the location of the elevator servo relative to the rudder servo. It appeared the two would interfere, but when you use balllinks as I did, it puts the rudder cable up high enough to clear the elevator push rod. I didn't use the elevator pushrod since there is no provision to keep it centered when moving. Without a way to keep it centered while moving, it could move the elevators unevenly. That's why I used the MK bellcrank.
I also ca'd the gear to the gear plate to check prop clearance and with the wheels that accompany the kit you will have enogh clearance for about a 17" prop. I will use some larger MK wheels that fit in the wheel pants that will allow me to use a 19" prop. This will only allow the tail to come up a few inches on takeoff, but with this type of plane, it will be off the ground before the tail comes up anyway. I installed the wing on one body and checked it for true with the fuse and it was exactly equal to both tips. I the installed the stab in it's cutout and low and behold it was very easy to align with the wing. This is one straight ARF. I normally don't like ARF's because they aren't usually as straight as I can build a plane, but this one is. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
Jeff, Is that the supplied pull/pull that came with the plane? I may have to glue a piece of ply to get the rudder servo up a little because I usually don't use ball adjusters on the pull/pull.
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
No, I am using kevlar and ball links instead of the wire and hardware that came in the kit. I'm picky.
I will use the ballbearing rod ends on the elevators and ailerons however that came with the kit. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
OK cool, I will be using a wheel for the pull/pull so I will have to rise it up a liitle. I'm glad the BB rod ends are of good quality with this thing. I can't wait. I hope it comes tomorrow.

RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
Jeff, Do you remember what shipping on your kit was from Russ? I'm going to get my money back from this so called hobby shop I ordered mine from and order from Russ.
|
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I live 10 miles from Russ's shop, so no shipping cost.
Call Russ. He can tell you what the shipping will be. The box doesn't weigh 10lbs. I'm sure. They came in DHL (late) but virtually undamaged. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
Well if mine doesn't come in tomorrow I'm going to get my money back and order one from Russ. It's been over 2 weeks since it was "supposed" to be shipped.
thanks |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
Jeff, I talked to Fliton last night and Russ today about the challenges I have had getting my Infinity. What nice guys they both are. I can see why people want to do business with Russ. Anyway, it shouldn't be long now before I get this resolved and another one on the way.

Here are some additional pictures showing my progress.
Have the elevators and rudders installed with hardware and servos all ready to go. Same with the ailerons. I am using a mix of Futaba 9101's and some new in the box JR 7005 wing servos that I have had for a few years. These should suffice. I included a photo of the wing trailing edge to give you an idea of how straight this plane is built. A lot of the times you will get arfs with warped ailerons; not this one. I have also received the Neumotor 1515/2Y's with 5.2 gear ratio. I plan to start out with a 19 x 12 on recommendation from a gent on this board. I am very impressed with the apparent quality of the Neumotors. I especially like that the gearbox is held on with four screws and not threaded on. No chance the motor will twist itself off the gearbox. The finned case is perfect for this application. Now I have to figure out how to mount the motor at the front. If you look at the picture of the pretty pair as I call them, you will see and ample land at the rear of the motor that will serve to support the back of the motor. Now we are waiting on the Hacker 90-Acro controllers. Jeff |

Here I have set the motor in the motor mount. No problem getting its length in the cowl. Now I have to come up with a former at the front to mount the motor. The former will have to be at least 1/2"-3/4" back from the nose ring. I will also come up with a rear support.
Also included is a shot of the front of the gearbox. Jeff |
RE: new.. fliton infinity 90
I just wanted to verify that there is no bushing for the stock elevator pushrod in order to keep it braced and centered, correct? And that's why nxtdoor went with an MK bellcrank.
