The canopy solution is WAY better than "good".... it is OUTSTANDING!!!! I made two frames yesterday, one for the new bird, one for the current flying model. Used the front and rear screws, reducing my 8 to four, but mainly making the whole setup much more solid and vibration-free.

Lancair - that was a terrific idea, and thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Chris,
Here' how I did my fuel tank. Two balsa blocks with a spacing under it to lead the velcro through. Sits perfectly tight and is easy to take out if needed.

Hey Jock,
Thanks man, that's where I thought you placed it and I'll probably do the same.... currently I have a lite ply shelf across the upper fuse longerons on the CG with the tank above and the receiver hanging below the tank. I like your canopy solution well enough to modify my installation:)

Thanks a bunch,
Chris

Thanks for the comments re the canopy frame idea. I cant claim it as my own entirely though. I saw a similar idea on ChrisBChips Matrix at the last comp I went to. He uses two screws/bolts at the rear sides and one locating pin at the front if I recall correctly. I also cant claim anything on the wing attachment idea, that I got from Bob, just modified it by putting ply plates behind the root rib rather than drilling into it and epoxying a dowl piece in. I figured the more intact I can leave the root rib the better.

Any possibility of a close up shot of your front pin arrangement on your frame? I like this method of attachment, and I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks.

Quick question for Arresti owners.
I see Arresti III decals in pics of the model, (Aruba's and Aerobobs). Did they come with your kit or have you had them made for you ? Mine didnt come with any decals.

Below are some poor quality pics of my canopy attachment method now finished. I hated the idea of 6 screws to be fiddleing with so made a frame to support the canopy at the top of the fuse rails. I have two pins at the front of the frame locating into holes drilled in the forward ply bulkhead and one 4-40 bolt and blind nut at the top rear of the canopy to hold it in place. Its a snug fit and nothing will move or flap. Im impressed with my own ingenuity here. I made the frame on the fuse to get it a perfect fit. Smeared some vaseline at the four corners to stop it sticking and used some 5 minute epoxy to tack glue the frame into the canopy with the canopy held in exactly the right place, then removed the canopy and fame and epoxied the rest of the frame into the canopy.

Sure.
The first pic shows the pins in the front of the canopy frame. I used 3mm dowl set into small blocks of basswood. The second (albeit very blury) shows the holes in the front ply bulkhead. I circled the actual holes that are used. I previously was going to use holes and pins in the top section but due to the upsloping canopy it wouldve meant more timber needed to mount them there. I wasnt thinking far enough in advance as I drilled the holes. To get the pins in the right spot I tack glued them in place, lined up and in the locating holes, on the frame work, BEFORE gluing the canopy to the frame. The single bolt at top rear is a 3/4 inch 4-40 cap head bolt into a small piece of 3mm ply with a blind nut glued inside the fuselage. I actually used one of the blind nuts that was in the side wall of the fuselage for the canopy attachment.
When the canopy is in place its a tight fit and absolutely no free-play anywhere. The frame work needs to be an exact fit to the rails in length and mine is probably about 1mm narrower than the rail width, this gives a tight/snug fit of the canopy against the fuselage sides at the bottom. Also the side rails and 90 degree cross braces of my frame work are 6mm square spruce and the diagonals are 6mm square balsa. Id estimate the total weight of the frame at no more than 15grams.

Just thought Id update this thread.
My Arresti III is at long last, ready to fly.
I used JR servos, 3421SA's for Elevator, 8411SA for rudder and 8231's in ailerons, throttle is a 537 std servo. I used a hyde ARIA mount for the OS140RX, its so easy to use and is well and truelly transplantable to other models. Battery is a new 4 cell 1700 pack I had from another aborted project, Rx is a JR900 SPCM.
Apart from allowing a mates impatientce or eagerness to help get it done one afternoon, get the better of me. I rushed things and didnt follow what Id planned to do, the end result being the stab is slightly out of allignment. About .4 of a degree but . . .
Aerobob is correct in saying the model will be heavy if built all stock. There are things that can be lightened as Bob has suggested and I may replace the stock gear with a lighter set that gives more ground/prop clearance. My Arresti RTF weighs in a 11lb 9oz [X(] [X(] [X(] But what the . . no ones going to be weighing any models at any comp I'll be going to during the life of the airframe.
I got decals cut by a local signwriter, he cut them larger than I asked, but for the $20 cash he charged me I didnt complain.
The weather the past few days hasnt been good and Im temporarily without my hatchback to fit the model in, my wifes car is too small (read "she wont let me use to haul around oily planes) I could make it fit but . . .
Ill write a first flight report and some more pics when it happens.

It flies.

After some engine troubles, see my OS140 Troubles thread, it flew today.

4 clicks of right trim was all it needed. Rolls were superb, inverted needed a breath of down and very little pitch to belly with rudder, although I didnt explore the rudder too far today. In fact I didnt explore the flight envelope much at all being the first flights. I did do one stall and spin which was effortless.

In short, I LOVE IT.

A picture of me and the Arresti and one of it taking off on the 2nd flight.
