Pattern plane for a 4 stroke 1.20
 

A friend of mine at the field gave me a OS 1.20 Surpass 4
stroke that needs bearings. I have ordered the bearings
and I was thinking about a Pattern aircraft.

Right now I am flying a 50cc Wild Hare Extra. Mostly basic/sportsman
style IMAC flying. I used to be crazy for 3D, but in my opinion the planes
look nicer flying a sequence.

I would like a kit and have looked at the CA Epsilon or Wide Body 60.
I would like something under $300.00 US if that is possible?
Any help in this area would be appreciated.

I also want a war bird some time and had thought about a Focke Wulf FW190D9...
I have heard the long nose 190's fly similar to a pattern plane? Is that true?

warbirds at some point,cant do pattern manuveurs,a GSP swallow or excelleron 90 will be a good choice for ur engine;)

If you don't mind building, the widebody is the way to go....it can be built light and performs very, very well.

No problem at all with building, working on a Patriot Speed plane now. My wife
gave me the kit last year so I thought it would be a good idea to work on it!

Can you guys explain the difference between the Exeleron and the Wide Body 60?
Also isn't the Wide body 60 a little small for the 1.20 4 stroke?

I sold my profile Yak today and now have a Ervine 53 2 stroke that would be great
in a Wide body 40!

The excelleron (as far as I know) will be a bit heavier RTF than the widebody. Alot of guys are flying the WB on YS110's, so I don't think your OS120 is a real stretch...however, it may be heavier than the YS, so be prepared to mount an aft rudder servo or something similar to prevent adding tail weight...

I have seen the OS120 on a GSP Swallow and it flew quite well but really labored through the intermediate sequence.....o.k. for the Sportsman though....

I´d go for the Epsilon. I just got it myself (not sure when I´ll build it though, but it was on sale locally...) and it´s a bit more modern than the WB60 with more fuselage volume and a redesigned wing for better snaps. I plan to downsize the ailerons and elevator a bit on mine to make it even better for pure pattern style flying. I´ve seen that some people have done this to the WB60 as well.

Also, all the flying qualities aside, the Epsilon just looks so much better. :)

advent, i cant make comparison between the widebody and excelleron, as i haven't flown the widebody, but i do have the excelleron90 . As a pattern ship, i cant fault it even though mine is powered only with a 90 2stroke. The bank ballance at the time couldn.t go for a 120 4stroke. but i do believe with a 120 up front your pattern flying would be exceptional, the greater torque of the 4stroke over the 2stroke would make a world of difference. The Excelleron is precision par excellence.
