Hey guys,

Heres my build thread of the cyclone which is exclusive to Austrlia. The Cyclone is designed and mostly built be master builder John Payne. The Cylone is built straight as a die and flies like nothing i've ever flown! Snaps stop on a dime and the rudder power is insane!

I will be running all JR equipment:

elevator: DS8455 super speed servo

Rudder: DS8411 high torque servo

Ailerons: 2x 9411 midi size servo

Reciever: R900S PCM reciever

Battery: 1100mah Nicd, may go lithium

Motor: OS 140RX with Hatori high rise header and tuned pipe.

Here are some picture of it so far and one of the backup model i'm flying at the moment also powered by OS 140RX and the exact same setup. I only started taking photos halfway through so all the seems have been sanded and filled which was alot of work!!![:'(][:'(]. i will post some picture of the wings and the colour scheme i have planned for it later. I have also included a picture of all the central hobbies goodies!

Hello Chris, i read your article above , and will let John know it is in here. I see him every week, with his Cyclone, and yes i agree it is an awesome aircraft, but dont praise John too much , we have to fly with him, dont want a swelled head as well to contend with. But all jokes aside i am sure you will be more than happy with the Cyclone

LOL, :D thanks madgenius.

BTW, plane is coming along. finished installing spruce on the rudder tray to make it stronger. Got the rails in for the elevators L bracket, got all the trays glued in. should be painting this weekend or next. probably next weekend though. Covering is on its way from Sydney.

Hi Chris, looking good. Just remember... every gram counts :-). Now if I can just get my next one up to that stage I'd be right. Hope you guys are going well.

RE: cyclone build

Hey Peter, Yeah i'm a bit worried i built the rudder tray a bit heavy but i suppose as long as it comes in under 5kg i'll be happy with it My OS has plenty of power to pull it around;). And it'll be better in the wind.:)

Chris
Remember to keep it light the Cyclone flies best if kept under 4.8kg your rx140 will strugle if it gets heavy especially
in the wind go easy on the paint on the fuse a light model always flies better even in the wind
so remember KEEP IT LIGHT
John

Beautiful airplane Chris. Is it molded balsa? I've seen the Cylclone some around (on the net), they look good.

Chris-B-chips 09-26-2005 03:03 AM

RE: cyclone build

Its a vacuum moulded fuse which is made up of ( John correct me if i'm wrong) 3/4 oz cloth, 1/16th balsa, 2oz cloth sandwich. the wings are balsa sheeted foam core, bassicaly your typical pattern wing. this model is amazingly strong from what i've seen (Half throttle snap in a verticle downline![X(]). I'll try and get some more pictures of the progress, but certain things like school and composite arf extra's tend to get in the way of much progress[8D].

RE: cyclone build

Hi Chris

Is it rude to ask you how much the kit cost you ?

I am in melbourne

Thanks

Troy

RE: cyclone build

Sorry I missed your question, No its not rude at all[8D] I THINK the kit was $800, the competition balsa to sheet the wings, wing tube, motor mount, nose ring and F3A wide under carriage cost around $450 , and then another $600 to get it built ready to cover and paint stage.

Looks like you are well on your way for the national team now Chris..Hope John doesnt mind making airframes as i'd like to get one of these when i can STEP up to a 2X2..

For now i have to settle with a smaller Cyclone that was given to me from a club member.Should be going by Coolum.

Keep up the thread and your flying..

Darran.

RE: cyclone build

Chris,

The cyclones are a great plane you'll love it. I had two, lost'em both in mid-airs.
In fact, you would have seen my second cyclone at the masters at Shepp meet it's maker.
Sad day that, it was it's first comp. I had a 140RX in mine and it flew great.
I've moved on to pinnicles now, can't get'em built quick enough to keep up with the mid-airs.

Good luck at the imac on the weekend

GlennO

RE: cyclone build

yeah i remember[:'(][:'(] shame, your cyclone was easily the best finished cyclone i've seen.

Vortec 11-08-2005 04:22 AM

RE: cyclone build

Hay Chris, hows the Cyclone comming? Your not spending to much time with Peter's to finish your own off are you?

I should have mine finished by tomorrow.Going to fire it up to give the engine a few tanks and to iron out any bugs as my throttle linkage setup was BS.. Why cant they make four stroke carbies on the front like the REAL engines..

Cya..
