Melissa says thanks very much about the carbon work :D (She's gotten very good at making those)

As for a composite kit.....it's a ways off. I can't even give an estimate, because I really haven't started it yet. I know I want to do one, and have a ton of ideas about it, but I just haven't made it that far yet.

But it's in the works, I just want it to be one of those that pulls out all the stops if I'm going to do it. However with that being said, my personal planes will probably be wood!

Hey Mike,

The kit is going together very well . Quicker than I thought. If I would have gotten the right wing tube and stab tubes. I think this plane may have made it to the Nats. The fuse is almost done.

Just a few detail shots. Couple pics of the inside, and take special note of the stiffener at F-4. Also the air dam which I now consider standard equipment.

Here's some pic's. Can you post a clean shot of the belly pan. I am having a heck of time trying to get it to line up. I need to slow down on this project. I've made some minor errors. Which cost me even more time. I work alot of hours durning the week so I wont even touch it again till Saturday evening.

Ok. Lemme dig and see what I can find. I heard Dean had the same problem, which way is it "off"? I garauntee it's something simple (usually is).

This is all I can find right off the bat, I have a bazillion pics.

I do have mine off of #1 right now, so is there any specific area you need to see?

Yeah, a lot of mine are blurry. I'll take more when I get back into full tilt building mode (after the Nats).

Anything you guys want to see, I either have it or I'll take it. And if not, Dean probably has GOOD pics. LOL

I need to see where it mates to the lower deck and along the frame sides. Mine sits a little low. I will post some pic's later this week.

Thanks For The Help,
Buddy.

Buddy,

The plane is designed so that you sheet your top around the nose, and rough sand it first.

Then mount the engine.

Sand a lip for the cowl to seat onto the fuse, and slide the cowl on over the engine. The cowl must be trimmed at the rear about 1/4"-3/8", and the distance from the spinner back plate to the firewall is about 6 3/8". Leave a small clearance between the spinner and cowl of about 1/16".

It is common practice to have to sand the bottom there and "raise" the cowl very slightly. This will leave a slight gap between the cowl and belly pan at the engine compartment.

After the cowl is glued on, take a lagre block sander and work the bottom of the fuse so it fits better. you can still leave a slight gap, because of the way the belly pan is shaped, when you tighten your front screw it will pull it all tight.

I hope that made sense. if you need more help, you know my #.

-Mike

PS I'm still looking for belly pan pics...

Oh and if you mean it's low where it meets the rear belly core, pffft lay down a piece of 1/16" balsa on the fuse and stringers and sand to fit. I love wood.

Works for me problem solved. The only way I could see solving my problem is what you desribed. If I flexed the belly pan to raise up to meet the rear belly core then It through everything else off.

Thanks Buddy

Hi All,

Here are some pics, the build is basicly finished. I have equipment and mounts next. But I am happy happy happy !! This is one bad mother !!!

The airframe fully asambled in these photos is at 4 lbs 13.9 oz - that's the complete airframe. Not sure where it's going to end up at but this thing is really really big, really strong and very light....

the cowl and belly went on nice and the canopy fit is tight.

Dang this beer is tasting GREAT !!!!

loving this plane, man it's awesome !!! it's beautfull !! loving it!!!

cheers, Dean

yes, it was indeed definition #2. Sorry, throwbacks to my old days of Ultima Online and Team Fortress Quake.....

Ahh yes, Heineken...the official beer of the Black Magic! I'm only on #6 tonight, and am stopping right in the middle of rebuilding my second engine. Must...get...sleep.........and practice, yes, much practice....

Dean, fantastic job man!!!!!!! You might get a dragon shirt for that one. Do that finish right, make us proud!

Wait, I'm having a vision.....it's foggy....but clearing...I see.....your future....it's wood...no wait....SANDPAPER!!!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!

LOL have fun finishing that beast. I'll be at Ga Jets trying to get some much needed practice. Y'all got my # iffin ya needs me!

Oh yeah one more thing.....the top of your tail/rudder, is that cocked backwards or is it just the pic? It's supposed to be parallel with the center line of the fuse......

Just curious. Nighty night all. Good night Johnboy!

yea that is the pic, I shot it with my 16mm fisheye lens.... no worries it's parallel to the centerline.... look how weird the stab looks too....

Dean,

Any chance you can post pics of wing fixing bolts, I think Mike bolts through the end of the wing bolts in the wings instead of using wing fixings on the socket at the fuselage join. I see there are twin wing adjusters front and rear any advantage to this ?

Thanks

Ian
