Good idea though, I know that a lot of people like to honeycomb the wings, to reduce the moment on inertia on pattern wings.

Having a look through the pics again, I notice that the section seems to be really thin, apart from the 1/4" x 1/8" wood spars have you considered inlaying carbon rods?

"it's an inanimate carbon rod!"

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*

Nope because it's not necessary. A couple pieces of spruce and a couple pieces of balsa/carbon/balsa and this thing will hold up to just about anything (except a van door, don't ask......)

If I haven't managed to break a wing ,and Emory (Mr. High Energy Snap) hasn't managed to break one, I'm inclined to think they're maybe even overkilled. But since the weight and effort is negligable, I'll leave them as is.

I can tell you that the way Mike builds a wing is very strong. After having my 1st Black Magic crash, I wanted to see how strong the wing was. I broke it over my knee. To my surprise, it took several times to actually break it. And, I do like to snap a lot when flying and they seem to hold up to that so far:D

Yeah, just wait until you try and fit it in your car! I had to rethink my method of transport.

Yeah yeah yeah!!! Well, they were at least still hanging on the wall when I got home. I needed to change the aileron servos anyway.

Centreal Hobbies said it was there mistake, Just for peace of mind Mike do you think the mounting holes willl match up. How did thta pilot make out with the borrowed plane an were are the AMA scores posted?

MHester 09-11-2006 04:36 PM

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*

yes the mounting holes should be the same. be glad you haven't glued the cowl though, as it can slightly tweak the thrust from one mount to the next. Just build it like it is.

So which one did they send you? That was the ugliest hyde mount I've ever seen....I've never seen the nose ring mounted like that!

I got second, actually managed to win 2 rounds. It was really challenging and fun. I bet I never forget my wings again though....

which of the two would you use for the BM. I,ve used both with good results. The Robart have good holding power using monkey grip but the Radio South hinges allow for sealing the aili real tight Any sugestions before I slot the T E an L E.

Mike,
Sounds like you forgot something... Bummer. Hey, I forgot my radio once. Just ran down to the field for some quick practice and when I got there - dammit! Anyway, the wood is on the way, the bench should be clear real soon. Last D1 contest is this weekend. Time for some Black Magic, baby! I'll send some pic's as the work progresses. Scott Smith and I are trying to come up with a way to vacuum bag the honey-combed wings. Scott uses a different method that shouldn't crush the cores. We're going to make some test pieces and try them before we put the good stuff into the bagger. I'll let you know how that works.
How's that YS running for you? Has anyone set up a Black Magic with an OS 160 yet? If they have, I'd be interested in some pic's. I hope fitting the header doesn't require shredding up the cowl.

John Pavlick
