RE: Old 2 stroke pattern fun

Side exhaust is easier, but rear exhaust looks cooler. [8D]

I went against the grain some years ago and mounted a RE Rossi .61 into the nose of a Tiporare. What a pain it was to shoehorn the engine into that narrow nose. But I did it, and it sure looked cool with the pipe slung under the wing centerline (I modified the plane with a removable half-bellypan and semi-pipe trough with appropriate reinforcement in the wing). If I had it to do again, I'd go with a side exhaust engine. The Curare might be a tough one to find that weird Magic/Curare RE header for, unless you have it already.
Any .61 engine that runs strong should make it a bullet.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'd like to go with the side exhaust. My Os silent pipe is long and looks like if I go with the RE motor (mounted sideways) it may interfere with the speedbrake function and spoil the streamline looks of the plane. If I go with the side exhaust it will look cleaner, but I may have to make a header up because the drop looks greater than anything I have. I guess with the pipe under the wing it would may make wing removal more difficult also? Debating on taking the easy way out and go with a performance specialty muffler but that would not be "classic".

The internal system on the Eclipse was nice. This plane is also much smaller than the Eclipse. Almost .40 size. Should rip with the right setup.

I have one of the Great Planes Tipos and it is a very good kit. I hope to fly it soon!

It’s great to see all the discussion on the RCU about these pattern aircraft. I believe you should fly what you like and I like the vintage stuff.

BTW, stumbled on this Tipo kit last night on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

There when my bid. Now that the word is out we could
be looking at $400 or $500 for that kit. Thanks for letting
the cat out of the bag.

That's okay. I already have one NIB anyway. But it would be
nice to have one to fly and a backup still in the box.

I am restoring an MK Arrow. The plane is about 23 to 24 years old..maybe a little older. It has only flown about 3 or 4 times. But due to all the hangar rash I sanded down the fiberglass fuse and I am about half way done painting it. should finish recovering the wings tonight. Then will probably paint some trim on the monokote. Has Robart pnuematic retracts that I need to get working. Don't know much about them. Finally got the super tiger 61 rear exhaust tuned pipe dialed in on the bench. It screams. I will try to post some pics soon. I have to decide on a radio setup with the dual elevators. I don't think I can get to the back of the narrow fuse for the DEPS system.

I went out and shot my bullet today...............Believe it or not, I bought this plane for less than $100 bucks. It took me a while to get the pump squared away, but now it flys like a dream.....a really fast dream!

I call those deals the gift of the 2M grape Kool-Aid! Many of the 2M guys want to dump these cool rocket ships to make room for 2M stuff. Lucky us! Although if the rocket ships get on ebay they aren’t so cheap!

Hi All . .

Does any one have a link or pictures of Phil Kraft's World Championship winning Kwik-Fly MK3 ? I am sure it was orange with blue trim . .

Thanks. Jeff

RE: Old 2 stroke pattern fun

Yes, Phil's Kwik-Fly was orange with blue trim. Larry Leonard flew the same paint scheme when he won the U.S. Nationals.
