RE: Ultra Rc Evolution

At the moment, I am seriously considering buying this plane, are there any new experiences with the E-evolution? Is it a good buy for the money?

Cheers:D

I've seen the airplane fly and I think it is good for a Interemediate to Advanced Airplane. It fly's very well from my persepective ( If you get the weight and CG right. ).

For the money Alex, and with a few mods, it is worth the money. The Evolution does fly well IMO.

Ok, thanks guys:D I'll probably order it next month:)

I want to use one Hitec 945MG for the elevators (instead of 2 in the stabs), I will place this servo next to the rudder servo, would that be a problem for the CG? Or can I simply move the 10s pack a little to the back of the plane?

Greetz.

I do think that would cause a problem for cg. My batteries were back against the tube already.

And your CG is perfect? (how does it fly inverted?) Maybe I can place my receiver and battery+switch far behind the canopy.

I couldn't wait any longer, so I just ordered the plane, I will have it (hopefully) within one week.

Greetz.

Actually, now that I think about it, I ran 3700's in the Evolution. With 5000's you may be alright.

Ok, great:D Btw, I have the Axi 5330/F3A engine.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution

That's what I ran in it also. Keep your prop size down to a 20.5x14 max IMO. I tried a 22x12 back then as they said it was ok, but I went through a lot of motors. Everyone I see that has success with them now run a smaller prop.

I will first try the APC-E 20*13, should be fine.

Does the plane have enough ground-clearance for a bigger prop?

Greetz.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution

Plenty of ground clearance.. 20x13 is also a good prop for the Axi.

Chris
I was just about to post my experience was quite different. I had my batteries almost flush to the former that the canopy sits on in front, with the back of the batteries a good inch forward of the wing tube. I'm so glad you made the above statement because I was using Flightpower f3a 5350's and was really confused how we could be so different. The 3700 explains it.

Alexzzz - I think you'll be ok

Yeah, I had totally forgot. It seems like ages ago when I was running the 3700's.. Heck, and the Evolution..

Do you have some pictures of the plane with the Axi? I'm not sure how to install the engine, some people warned me there can occur cooling-problems.....

Thanks.

Partly, I also would like to know how to baffle the cowl, if needed.... (and maybe some exit-holes in the fuselage?)

Does anyone have a set of stock landing gear they would like to sell.. I tried to modify mine to make them shorter and it didn't work out so well. Please PM me if you have a set. Thanks .

mugenkidd You will be better off to go ahead and put a set of Bolly gear in I tried the stock ones and found they will not hold up. It is not hard to do at all I have about 300 flights over two seasons with no problems at all. I will try to figure out how to put a picture in for you asap.

Did you fix the wings? Other than that it is a good plane .I have won several trophies with mine.

MuggenKidd
I am supposed to have an extra set of stock gear but I have not been able to locate them, sorry.

IF you want to make a set you can purchase stock from Aerospace Composites. I used 3 pieces and made a replacement set that has held.
The socket size I used was 0.393OD X 0.290ID. Make it 1/3 your total landing gear length so it exits the bottom of the fuse further.
For the strut use 0.285ODX0.186ID which actually fits quite nicely in the socket. Make it 2/3 of your total length.
Now insert carbon tube 0.180OD X0.110ID and make it the total length. Glue the music wire wheel strut into the carbon tube with JB weld.
When you finish you have a 3 piece gear strut that should flex rather than break.

Thanks for all of the help guys..I purchased this new in the box from a RCU member, back in september. I still do need to do the wing mods, thanks for the information Eddie and KGSS28, I'll take both into considerations.

KG do you have a website or link to the Bolly gear that I could use?

Eddie, I have the stock sockets glued into my fuse pretty good, do you think I could just use the carbon tube and music wire with the existing socket with success?

Thanks a lot guys, a really apreciate the help.

If you can locate carbon tubes that are the same size as the stock ones then add a 3rd one inside the strut and then the music wire and you'll be fine.

The problem I had when I messed up my set was I had difficulty finding carbon tubes the correct size. That is why I listed all 3 sizes I used.

If you can't find the correct size, it is easier to drill out the glued in socket than you might think.
Start with a drill bit that will slide inside it then move up 1 bit size at a time, drilling through completely. Then drill it out with the next size larger bit and keep going. Eventually the remaining socket will spin out with the drill bit. The left over glue made a good sheath for the new socket.
