t.e. thikness
I have heard from a friend that was at the european pattern in lucerna that all the planes had an extremely thick (up to 8mm at the root) trailing edge on wings can someone explain why?
|
RE: t.e. thikness
The theory is that it makes the wing feel softer around neutral on the aileron- rather like exponential--and the same goes for the rudder t/e.
|
RE: t.e. thikness
these thikness is obtained cutting a strip of t.e. or modifyng the wing section?
|
RE: t.e. thikness
It's up to you. It seems CPLR just trimed 15mm of the trailing edge of his wing!
I believe you can get a simliar effect by sticking a 8mm strip of thing ply to you existing TE's. Certainly the rudder. |
RE: t.e. thikness
Hi There,
Look closely this Rudder of Mayer's [link=http://users.tkk.fi/~jkarppin/f3a/ec2006/third_raining_day/large_34.html]Daggrom[/link]... I say its slightly thickened.. |
RE: t.e. thikness
OMG that is the thickest rudder I've ever seen!
BUT that's is a fishtail Rudder which is different to a flat te rudder. It kicks out at the T.E. and I assume stops fishtailing. I was messing with on some aircraft I had that had fishtailing problems. Apparently the fibreclassics E 330L had a big problem with fishtailing, and could be fixed with a strip of fuel tubing glued to the TE of the rudder. How about that! |
RE: t.e. thikness
what means fishtail rudder?
|
RE: t.e. thikness
Hello
When you look at above the tail of the plane, airfoil is like the tail of a fish. Regards |

Take a look at the wing tip devices on Sebastiano's plane, picture 1972 after clicking on the Daggrom link above, interesting.

Hello
Tail of Benoit PLR's Oxalys |
RE: t.e. thikness
Thankyou papaone.
I think the first time this sort of section was used was on the old supermarine jets, namely the attacker, it seems to re-energise the airflow off the tail and "centres" the plane somewhat. of course I could be wrong. :S |
