RE: New Oxai models
ORIGINAL: ROGUE ROVER Hi Adrian I`m new to RCU what a fantastic site for modellers to exchange details! I put a deposit down on a proLine today HWT are expecting them in 10 weeks ( Think I bought the last one ) I`m currently flying a modified Zen 120 ( Fixed U/C 140 RX ) and am ready to upgrade to a fullsize model hence the proline. I am most interested in finding out all about the setup of the model, so if you can help or maybe even put me in touch with Akiba Sun I would most greatful. I also dont like the look of the T-canilizer unit and am hoping they dont install it on my model, do you know if they are an interchangable unit or not? Happy up and down lines Scott Scott, Contact me off list:- [email protected] Adrian |
RE: New Oxai models
TRoy, how do you compare the way your Astral XXc flies against your Adventure bipe? I have built, trimmed and flown an Oxai Astral XXc and a Zeque bith for buddies of mine and so far, I like the Astral much better although I only flew the Zeque four times so far. Am seriously thinking about getting an Oxai Astral but am having second thought because maybe they will make the Aries or Altair soon. I would rather wait for that. I am not sure I a would like to deal with the hassles of setting up and trimming a bipe just yet so am not to keen on the Adventure unless there is a very good reason. What's your feedback? Thanks.

Troy,
I'm definitely interested in any information for the Impression. It's a good looking bird! And retracts... Sweet. Joe W. |

ORIGINAL: Troy Newman Without going into details as the masters and grand dragons of the pattern world will argue why it should be their way.....I'll leave it at this. Troy Nothing wrong with a one piece wing. Nothing wrong with a 2 piece wing either. Whatever works. -Mike |
RE: New Oxai models
Jayjay,
there is not any more trimming than with the mono plane. This biggest issue is getting the ailerons setup the same. Just takes twice as long as the mono-plane. But this is all done on the bench. There is no adjustment on the wings. It doesn't need any. The stab has the standard Japanese jack screw for adjustments. The wings are one piece wings and the bottom one bolts on the top one just "snap together" Its a cool system the same as the Euphoria designed by Quique. I think it is a very good bipe. I have compared some thing between previous designs of bipes and i think it has a big advantage over those others. First all its a wood model that is Oxai quality and painted. Its not going to fall apart after a few flights and be pushing the weight limit. My model is 4778g that is 10.5lbs dry. A 160 DZ can fly it well. The 170 is excellent in it. There is minimal to no mixing in the model. I think there is like 2% down elevator with rudder, and about 2% roll mix. This is doing square knife edge corners. The bipe has a huge ability to fly on its side. Since its a wood model and is not twisting and flexing like some of the bipes were have seen its very stable. Flying a bipe and getting the feel to what you like is what takes a little time. The rudder is very smooth and powerful. You have to learn to harness this power. The rolling loops and circles are excellent with the bipe. I had some issues early on with positive snaps. But it was just a matter of rates and getting the right amount of control inputs. Quique's Euphoria uses a slightly different design philosophy and some of things are different on that model. I have one of those coming next month and I will do some comparing between the two models. I will say this the Adventure is a cool flying plane and looks really good in the air. Its different than the Astral XXc but I think it does the Finals pattern stuff better in many ways than the monoplane. Knowing what is going on next few years with the sequences I feel the Bipes will have an advantage. Obviously this is what Quique and Onda feel also. Troy |
RE: New Oxai models
Troy,
The nose picture of the Impression that you posted, is that set up for a YS mount? It seems to have very minimal structure, I was curious if it was sufficient. Thank you. |
RE: New Oxai models
Yes YS mount.
You can't see the structure its behind the firewall. Its not just plywood glued to the front of a firewall. Everything tongue and grooves together. Oxai uses the same idea as the Japanese model. The beams extrend all the way back into the gear plate formers. Its very strong. Actually the firewall materials are very light weight. They have little structural strength as they are not supporting the engine. Balsa with CF laminate is sufficient if you ahve the beams attached to the fuse properly. The purpose of the firewall is to keep oila nd dirt out of the model and to keep the beams located in the right spot. There is no load bearing on the firewall. The beams tie into the sides fo the fuse and slot through the formers. In the photo I posted the beams just don't go all the way to the nose to support the nose ring. You can use a Central Hobbies style nose ring instead of the YS version. Troy |
RE: New Oxai models
You can find additional photos of the Impression construction on the official OXAI web-site:
[link=http://www.oxai-rc.com/main/detail.aspx?ID=7]http://www.oxai-rc.com/main/detail.aspx?ID=7[/link] The model seems to have a couple of small mounting tabs in the front engine compartment for the YS nose ring. |
RE: New Oxai models
on second look it does. But either way you could mount a normal nose ring or the YS version either will work.
I have a Astral XXc that belongs toa friend and it has a Central Hobby Nose ring instead of the YS mount version. Personally I like the YS version for several reasons. Troy Newman Team Oxai |
RE: New Oxai models
One more question, Troy, how thick do the beams need to be for a YS mount? Is 3/32" AC ply laminated with CF sufficient, or do they need to be doubled in some places or doubled completely? Thanks.
|
RE: New Oxai models
They are around 6mm...
NOT sure if its two 3mm with CF in the middle or if its a single 6mm Basically its about 1/4" thick why are you building something? looking to buy something? or just asking? The mounting system is extremely strong. I'm thinking of a hyde mount retro fit to beams....Akiba does this using a Hyde style isolator. I don't think you can find anything lighter than the YS system. Its very light weight. Troy |
RE: New Oxai models
I am putting a YS mount in an airplane that I'm building and was merely curious what the norm for the thickness of the beams would be. Thank you.
|
RE: New Oxai models
If I was building it I would use 1/4 aircraft or 2 layers of 1/8th aircraft ply.
