CA Model's Eclipse Kit
Many thanks aerodude.
I was almost ready to go at it with my best guess, with the reference lines on the fuse, but wanted to verify them as correct, which you have done, and they are right on the money. Was you Eclipse and ARC? ARF? What do you think about the quality of the ARC(ARF)? I think the kit is great! Had some issues with a tube that was to short, replaced with carbon fiber anyway, other than that, its been a joy to build. I made some changes regarding the tip section, I don't really like the control surfaces running all the way to the tip ( personal preference), thats about all I have ventured from the planform so far. Now, back to the shop. |

I got the ARC. My tube was inside the root rib also, but now that I see how he's doing it from the pics you posted, that no longer concerns me.
Over all I think they did a pretty good job. Only prob I've found was my firewall. I think they got to much down thrust in mine. I couldn't get the spinner to line up with the front of the fuse without putting a shim under the bottom of the mount. Guess I'll find out once its flying. Got Centrals NMP header with the es pipe and their header support. Looks like I'm gonna have to do something to get that all to fit as the header has to be angled down to clear the bottom of the firewall, the brace isn't long enough to reach it and then there will have to be a bend in the teflon tube to get the angle to the pipe. Don't think that's gonna work out to well. Not sure what to do with that yet. |

I have info. IF you go to the web site on Planes plus where it shows the pictures of all the planes. Put your mouse on the eclipse and right click, then push show all and you will see instructions.
My buddy got the Arf. It looks very nice, kind of a strange scheme with the scales on the fuse but it is very good quality. |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
scales? as in reptile?
I tried to load the Eclipse page, but it is so slow to load, I gave up. If its the same instructions I saw this weekend, more work will be needed. Its a good start, but I never saw anything about servo locations for elev and stab mentioned, method to install floor, what height to place floor, etc, etc, etc. . Maybe they do now. Full instructions with photos are not needed, but if someone is a first time builder of a plane this style , it would be nice to have. I would have little to complain about then. As it is now, I am fielding questions about how I did certain steps from my web-page, and i am asking others for their input on areas I have questions about. Some will not have the convenience of the web and RCU to help them along. We are very lucky there. |

Scales? well I will call them Hexagons. kind of a bee hive pattern.

CA Model's Eclipse Kit
let us know how it flies. I figure to have mine finished by late April / first May.
Areodude, Look at the PLPROD site and check out the new plane, don't remember the name, but starts with an "L" . It looks to have about the same layout of the firewall, chin, belly pan as the Eclipse, you might get some ideas from the numerous pictures there. They have a very neat looking installation of a DZ. I am planning a OS140 in mine, with a Greve Pipe. So far it looks like a trouble free install. , but I will probably find out differently when I go to put it all in. The pass through the chin to the tunnel is smaller than I am used to having with Open belly pans and open tunnels. Some folks who purchased ARF,s and ARCS should be giving some flight reports soon I hope. I did get the Manual page on CA Models to load this morning, some improvments made to the instructions, looks as if they are updating one section at a time. It also has some photos along with instructions now. Maybe they will contine to update. |

Some great new photos and constuction info was posted to the Manual page of the Eclipse section of CA models website. Good stuff, just what many folks have been wating for.
Many thanks Marcelo. |

Lazulite? That airplane is boderline hideous in my opinion, but the Matt's designed the Smaragd to be pretty enough for two airplanes!!

Do you know???
Do you know how for into each wing the Tube should go? And for those who bought the ARC what is the bolt size used to bolt down the landing gear? Also where are you guys planning on putting your fuel tank? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
9 7/8" is the end of the wing phenolic on mine, but the tube is only 24" long. Centering the tube looking at about 9" into the wing.
6-32 on the landing gear. I cut out the fiberglass center section above the wing tube, added a carbon plate between the fuselage sides with a cut out for the fuel tank, which puts the tank about 1/2 and 1/2 over the wing tube which is the cg. |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
I did just as aerobaticsdude did his, makes a nice clean installation of the tank, I extended the plate rearward 1 1/4" behind tank as well for the rudder servo mount. This was to help with the lightweight nose the OS 140 engine will be producing. Moving the rudder servo up to this point should help with what I am anticipating as needed nose-weight.
Anyone got any photos of there personalized color schemes on their Eclipse? |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
My ARC arrived today, it is very nice. Everything fit together perfect. There were no gaps.

C'Mon, where are the updates?

Throws for the Eclipse
Hey Gents I thought I would share some info I got from Marcelo today.
The throws for the Eclipse are Elevators 25-30º up and down Ailerons 35-40º left and right Rudder 25-35º left and right This could vary to the pleasure of the pilot. The size to attach the stab tube is 4-40. |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
Those have got to be the throws for a 3D version, not for precision work. The rudder might be OK but you won't need anywhere near those throws on ailerons and elevators for pattern flying. I haven't finished my Eclipse yet, but my guess would be 10-12 degrees on the ailerons and not more then 15 on the elevators. When I do get mine flying I'll post exactly the throws I come up with.

CA Model's Eclipse Kit
Those throws looked a bit high to me as well. I can't see using that much elevator for spins even.. certainly not for normal sequence work.
One other things.. rather than email everyone individually who's asked.. I figured I'd let everyone know this way.. Planes Plus has a few of the ARF Eclipse and Fantasy in stock now.. Hope the moderators don't mind. -Doug |
CA Model's Eclipse Kit
Come on men, Anyone flown their Eclipse yet?
Opinions? I have been busy building on other folks planes, and have not had time to finish mine yet. Im still painting and covering a little at a time, hope to have the Eclipse finshed by mid May. Till then, I am enjoying the Titan more and more each flight. |
