Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
Which Pipe Are you guys using? Is That 26cc mac pipe #1404, effective on a OS 160 engine ?

RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
I used the Aeroslave pipe and also the ES with great results from both. Your choice. :)

Use the Aeroslave pipe. Very light, quiet, and they stand behind their products. The Mac pipe is a lot heavier and not as quiet.

Do consider the Greve pipe sold by F3A Lorenz...
http://www.f3alorenz.de/ I've used it on my Os 1.40's, but it will work as well on the 160! Light, cheap, silent and very efficient! (99Euro and ~165g..). Top it up with a Karl Müeller manifold and you're in business! |

Thanks to those who responded , I did get the header from Carl Mueller. Very Nice piece.

Hey, do any of you guys know the dimensions of the Aeroslave pipe? I was looking at the chart on the website for tunning it . But it didn't give the pipes dimensions.

ORIGINAL: frequent flyer Hey, do any of you guys know the dimensions of the Aeroslave pipe? I was looking at the chart on the website for tunning it . But it didn't give the pipes dimensions. It's a great pipe . . quiet with a mellow tone and makes awesome power . . especially with the 160. I highly recommend it. Attached is the 140 setup in my Impact, and the 160 setup in my Integral. The pipe fits easily in any plane designed to run a pipe . . but if there is a particular dimension you are concerned about, I'll check it for you . . Cheers, JB |
RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
Been using the standard OS-140 pipe,..heavier but works really good.

Yikes, $60 for the backplate, and you still need to buy the 1.40 pump. I can buy two Perry pumps for the cost of the backplate. I will admit it makes for a neat installation, but the Perry pumps are very reliable.

RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
I was thinking about the 140 pump set up on my 160 . . but I have found the Perry to be fine.
A friend has th e 140 pump with the OS pipe and 18.1 x 10 APC. I am using Perry VP30, Aeroslave pipe and 17 x 12 APC. Notable differences . . The OS pipe is louder . . the 18.1 x 10 prop seems more noisy (although it has other benefits) . . and it uses a LOT more fuel ! ! (don't know why but it is a lot). I use about 9oz per F3A P09 schedule and his uses about 12oz to fly Sportsman [X(] . . and they are both tuned ! Throttle management could be some of it . . |
RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
Thanks again to all , the info is great!
I have the header and I got a Perry pump. Can someone give me the length , diameter, of the aeroslave pipe that your'e using and how long the cone is, stinger etc. I building three different planes and I only have the YS 170DZ in all of my planes. I bought the OS 160 and I am building a new plane around that setup. Just want to get it perfect. I be giving planes to my friends and I want them to be the best I can set up.:D The more detail the better. |

Hummm,...
My OS-140 pipe set up on the OS-160 is very quite and as far as fuel goes,...I am using a 12oz tank and could get through F-9 or P-9 with extra fuel to boot. I discovered by accident one day when the pipe moved off the header coupling making the pipe longer by a half inch or more, it drank more fuel,..much more, couldn't finish the last two manuevors in P-9. Agree,..that's a pretty back plate,....may rob the one ones off my old 140's,...:D Perfer the Perry,...to easy to mess up!:D Regards, Bill H. |
RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
Does 140 back plate with pump unit fit directly to 160? What is your header lenght when using OS 140 standard pipe with 160 ?

My buddies who fly the carbon pipes tend to complain a lot about broken innards in the carbon pipes. The innards in the ES pipes were very reliable. |
RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
There are multiple good choices. I like my ES pipes- function and beautiful apearance.

RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
I am using the ES 26G pipe with my 160FX. I had it left over from a previous project. One of the larger diameter pipes might be a bit quieter. Exhaust duration was increased from 142 to 154 degrees. 8200+ with an APC 18.1x10. Good power for my overweight Focus.
ES pipes made in the last several years use the same resin as the ES gasoline engine pipes which see higher temps than glow engines. |
RE: Which Tuned Pipe? OS 160
Have to admit that i'm not very familiar with calculating these exhaust degrees. I have Hatori #907 header and standard OS/Hatori 140 pipe for 160fx. Planning also to use Apc 18x10 narrow prop and Perry VP30 pump.
How long extension pipe i should use between header and pipe to get best results? |
