Thanks I will, I am starting the skins for the Hindsight
and want to make sure I start off light |
RE: contest balsa weights?
Everytime i glue something on i try to figure out if it is what is neeed or overkill.
My first Insight with OS 160 was 10 lbs 4 oz without trying. Chuck |
RE: contest balsa weights?
most of the wood I got is very light and strait, according to the weights on Don's sight my skins are out of 5# balsa and took very little sanding to true the edges

RE: contest balsa weights?
Nice, where did you order from?

RE: contest balsa weights?
My last Lone Star order was pretty good as well.
The average density on the bundle of 42 sheets of 1/16 was over 7#. But if I removed the 5 heaviest sheets, then the average was easily under 6#. Not bad overall... If you can do wing skins from 5# sheets, AND you mind your glue weight, LE/TE weights, wing root weight, servo mount weight, linkage weight, etc...you have a real good shot at some pretty light wings. If you get under 14 oz flying weight with film covering it's very good. With care under 13 oz flying weight is possible! Richard |
RE: contest balsa weights?
the LE/TE stock is pretty good too, if I can get the Gorilla glue on correctly they should pretty light

RE: contest balsa weights?
If your wings are for a 2 meter plane use 10 to 12 grams of glue per side per core. Keep it as lite as possible. There's a gentleman I believe in Nebraska that has a step by step method of sheeting wings. This should give some ideas to help you. I don't do everything he does but it's good info.

these are for a 2M plane, I asked Mark Hunt to round off the Insight and he did, he also liked it and changed a couple of other things and now he calls it a Hindsight, so I'm building the first one, should be a better plane than I am a pilot ;)
as far as that sight goes I have read it a couple of times and there is some good stuff there, between my old techinique, that sight and some suggestions from Mark and Astropuppy I think I have it all figured out as to how I'm gonna do this thing thanks |
