Hi Chad, its going great,,,,,,It seems I don't have all the rules straight, so in USA, planes in the lower classes are weighed with batteries in?.....Not that you would get weighed in a lower classes anyhow but there has been talk here about over weight ships and manufacterures suffering sales because of that. If I go to a contest in the US is my Canadain plane going to have to make weight with batteries in?

In the US all planes are weighed with batteries in the plane. Most planes out there will make weight, you just have to pay close attention. But the ONLY contest in the US you will get weighed at is the NATS, and that is only if you are in the hunt to win, even in the lower classes,

Thank you Archie, I think any more about this subject is material for another thread,,,,,,,I also emailed EF awhile ago about their 2m ship but no dates for arrival,,,,,The smaller Vanquish flies well for its size, I hope the larger version makes it here by the fall/winter as it looks like it could be the ship for me, depends on something else catching my fancy and fitting my limited pocket book.......

I'm surprised that AW hasn't got something on their design table?

I think the biggest issue is lack of a large market. Pattern flyers are still a very small part of the R/C world. I know 3D hobby shop is working on a 2m Osiris that I bet will be out this fall/winter. Ben and those guys do a really good job with getting the stuff out. Trying to get planes out to the market is well over a 25K investment from what I've been told to go from design to getting the first container. Then you have to hope it sells. Not many companies are willing to take that risk.

Maybe, but if you talk nice to the CD maybe he will convert the Canadian weight to US weight at the current USD to CND exchange rate...that should help keep you under LMAO!

Archie is right, you will likely never ever be checked. That was part of the reason for getting rid of the weigh with batteries rules up here. Secondly (since it was my proposal that got it changed) I felt it was not fair to force people to use lipo's at the time, as they were very expensive. It would open the door to A123's and similar packs. There are at least two guys in Calgary flying pattern using Dewalt tool batteries that would likely not meet the weight rules if forced to weigh with batteries. This way they are perfectly legal at any contest (at least in Canada).

The Aquila isn't exactly a leading edge design but it looks like a pretty solid, classic design. For $300 it looks like a great deal. You just need to figure out how to mount your motor. For anyone getting their feet wet in Pattern and not wanting to fork over the big bucks, this looks like a good way to go.

Actually this would be true in most cases as both glow and electrics are weighed with their batteries in. I'm sure there are glow/cdi fliers out there that would love the chance to be able to pull their batteries out at weigh in time.......
