RE: ARF Pattern Planes in 2 meter size
ORIGINAL: can773 ORIGINAL: Scote Great thread !! I'm in the market as well and a ''covered'' 2M ship would be my choice so that I can handle the repairs, dings & hanger rash that almost always comes with models,,,,,Five color paint jobs are not in my personal repair abilities, five color covering is..... I have to wonder why, with the emergence of more affordable electrics for us now, why are the 2M ships weighed with batteries in? The IC models are weighed without fuel,,,,,,could that be a change the pattern community needs to help it grow-Keep the 2M plane specs, relive the weight rule to reflect modern times, weigh them without batteries (fuel)...IMO How's it going? In Canada the MAAC classes are weighed without batteries, we made that change a few years back. Only FAI is required to weigh with packs, as that is an FAI rule. |
RE: ARF Pattern Planes in 2 meter size
In the US all planes are weighed with batteries in the plane. Most planes out there will make weight, you just have to pay close attention. But the ONLY contest in the US you will get weighed at is the NATS, and that is only if you are in the hunt to win, even in the lower classes,

RE: ARF Pattern Planes in 2 meter size
I think the biggest issue is lack of a large market. Pattern flyers are still a very small part of the R/C world. I know 3D hobby shop is working on a 2m Osiris that I bet will be out this fall/winter. Ben and those guys do a really good job with getting the stuff out. Trying to get planes out to the market is well over a 25K investment from what I've been told to go from design to getting the first container. Then you have to hope it sells. Not many companies are willing to take that risk.

RE: ARF Pattern Planes in 2 meter size
ORIGINAL: Scote If I go to a contest in the US is my Canadain plane going to have to make weight with batteries in? Archie is right, you will likely never ever be checked. That was part of the reason for getting rid of the weigh with batteries rules up here. Secondly (since it was my proposal that got it changed) I felt it was not fair to force people to use lipo's at the time, as they were very expensive. It would open the door to A123's and similar packs. There are at least two guys in Calgary flying pattern using Dewalt tool batteries that would likely not meet the weight rules if forced to weigh with batteries. This way they are perfectly legal at any contest (at least in Canada). |

I'm surprised that this one hasn't popped up on this thread sooner. http://shop.ne-aero.com/product.sc?productId=1
The Aquila isn't exactly a leading edge design but it looks like a pretty solid, classic design. For $300 it looks like a great deal. You just need to figure out how to mount your motor. For anyone getting their feet wet in Pattern and not wanting to fork over the big bucks, this looks like a good way to go. |

No recent posts and not much info on electrifying it, but an interesting price,,,,,,,,,,Kina reminds me of my Venus II, only it has a removable canopy[sm=regular_smile.gif] |

a lot of mixed comments on the Aquila... price is good.... engine cowl looks like Man Arse though....
