Default ARF Pattern Planes in 2 meter size

I am thinking about trying some of this pattern action.....

been doing the 3D/giant gas stuff for 5 or 6 years.... thinkin' about a plane that doesn't need a trailer...
clean quiet electric.... I have a lot of Hacker C50 and A60 experiance, 10S LiPo size setups....

but I notice everyone and their sister has a 50cc, 100cc and 150cc wood scale arf...

but no 2 meter pattern planes!!!

Am I looking in the wrong places???

I know there are a lot of 2K dollar planes... but are there any decent 2 meter wooden arfs
for a lower price??? (An Ace/TT 40% extra is like $1400.00!!)

any ideas????

tnx

I have an old Sebart Funtana 140 that is fun... but doesn't KE very strongly

Hey Mith

I assume you are looking for an electric.

A good way to get into this is to get a used plane turn key. Keep your eyes open, there are usually some good ones popping up now and again for good prices.

The passport arc or arf are great. I think Chip and CA were thinking about doing a simpler entry level version for a lower price.

If you want a 110 sized plane then the sebart wind 110 is great.

Let me know when you are coming to ocma again, I'll help you get started in this endeavor.

Mith,
I have a 2 meter Passport which is a top quality 2 meter.  I bought it used for a very good price.  They are out there if you look. I know you, and you won't be happy with anything less that a fully competative modern 2 meter design.  If you want to go with a new plane, take a look at the Sebart 2 meter which is available from Thunder power (the battery company).  Both 3D hobby shop, and Extreme Flight are planning on releasing reasonably priced (sub $700.00) two meter planes later this year.

For a good look at the high end models take a look at this site.  The kits are fairly reasonable, and I know you have the ability to build them.  They are all much easier than the 40% kits.

There will be a Pattern event at Miramar in August, come fly with us.  Of course you are welcome to come down and try my Passport anytime.

Mith,
You may also want to check with your Comp-ARF contacts.  they were recently offering some great prices on the Intergal because it was replaced with their new Valiant.  The Integral is one generation old, but still a fully capable 2 meter plane.  I think they were selling them for much less than the posted price.

It is not quite as easy to design, develop and fabricate a straight flying quality competitive wood ARF pattern plane that is within the weight limits than it is your average run of the mil ARF Scale Aerobat. The market for pattern planes is also smaller. Your average sport flyer would sooner go out and buy an ARF scale aerobatic plane before he would a pattern plane.

That being said, you do not need a 2M plane to get started. The Wind 110 is a good start in electric. Also, consider looking around for a good used 2M plane.

Mith,

I asked the same question as you... Where can I find a nice 2 meter ARF pattern ship that won't cost an arm and a leg? There isn't one. Well, there might be some used ones out there but I didn't find any. I did however just buy a Sebart Wind 110 which is still a fairly good size plane and it's fairly affordable. You could easily power it with 10S and not have it too heavy. Take a look at them at Esprit Model or Aero Model. I'm pretty sure you'll like what you see.

It helps to join the NSRCA email list (go to the NSRCA website), sale stuff usually comes on there before anywhere else, you can also post what you are looking for someone may have something to sell but never posted it.

There are usually some very good deals on planes if you keep watch. Pattern is such a small market most planes are sold through word of mouth.

Need to get one of the big guns.... Horizon or Great Planes to make an ARF 2 meter plane IMHO. Then get some top pilots to fly it here and there to give it some exposure. That all by itself will do wonders for pattern. It will give "would be" newbie pattern pilots something that looks like a piece of serious pattern equipment. That will fill a void in the market and bring in some new recruits. IMHO the Focus from Piedmont isn't/wasn't well enough known to most regular guys. Gotta reach them with a nice plane offered in a Tower Talks flier or the Horizon equivalent.

Of course, this is a pattern newbie's opinion so it's probably not even worth .02.

How many people would actually buy an ARF pattern plane from a large supplier (Horizon, Great Planes?) I think the market would be a little too small for something in the 2-meter range, but what about a 110 sized airplane? How many people do you think would actually buy one, versus just wanting to see one?

Ryan,

After searching around I bought a Wind 110. So how may people would by one in my opinion....tons. Truth be known, I also bought a Dream 110 at Toledo several years ago. Didn't you guys sell a lot of Showtimes? Aren't you sensing that the 3D craze (for planes) is starting to wane? I'm going to say that I believe you'd sell 2-3 to people in my little club in Holly Michigan. How would that translate to the entire country? I'm not sure. Whatever you do, make sure the plane will perform well with one of your Power Outrunners as well as a glow engine.

Right now, I'm impressing the heck out of the glow flyers in my club with electric powered planes using cheap Chinese Lipos and a lot of them are finally talking about making the switch to electric power.

THe Sebart Wind 110 and Angel S 50 have already made a big impact in the Virginia area. Last contest I attended there had a whole bunch of Wind 110's and Angel S 50s. There were 14 Intermediate pilots I had to judge. Guys complain about judging Masters. Try judging Intermediate where the error count is significantly higher.

I sure hope the Vanquish 2M does make an appearance soon. Hope they make weight, as well. Then again it is a foregone conclusion that it will be easier to have a legal plane in Advanced and below should the cross-proposal get the official nod which I believe it will.

I bet a Boss 351 (1971) could keep up with a 429.
If we only knew then what they'd be worth now.

The manufacturers cannot make a $600 or $700 2-meter ARF that can be electric and make the AMA weight rules. I tried to get that changed but the Contest Board wasn't listening.

Really.... That's a bummer and a big negative for the sport. Well, maybe not big negative but it is a BIG bummer.

The Neptuno EP is a true ARF - fully composite and you'll be flying it in 7-8 hours or so. You'll get all the hardware including a motor mount for the 14XL Hacker in order to get you going... price is $2100 delivered to your door.

PM me for details.
