Default Futaba 9C and Ultra Stick problem

I am expericing a frustrating problem when trying to program my 9C to use the airbrake. I have followed the faq from futaba, and when I adjust my flaps in the airbrake menu the left aileron moves instead of the flaps. I am using the 148 receivier and have the servos plugged in as specified.
I'm trying to take it slow as this is my 2nd plane since my trainer and I find the 9C easy to understand for the most part.
Have I overlooked something? I have even set the 2nd Aileron to '6 or 7' and have tried '5 and 6' with no change in response.

TIA

Your second aileron is on 7 and your flaps are on 6, right?

Actually no. I have it set up according to the FAQ
http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-9c-q515.html
1 - right aileron
2 - elevator
3 - throttle
4 - rudder
5 - Empty
6 - left aileron
7 - left flap
8 - right flap and battery
