Default Early AR8000. Dsm2 or dsmx or both?

I bought a dx8 with ar8000 in February that was labeled dsm2. Now with the switch to dsmx I understand my dx8 is upgraded to dsmx via a software up date, but will the ar8000 operate at dsmx now too?

Also should it be 22ms or 11ms link?

Thanks

Transmitters bought in February should have the dsmx receiver included. Look at the back of the receiver and you will see two sets of letters and numbers both ending in in X.
If you are using the X receiver use the 11ms link. It might link too that automatically but I am not sure of that. If you use the regular dsm2 receiver use 22ms.
If your receiver is not the x type it will not function as dsmx.

When DSMX was announced, Horizon came out and said that all ar8000's were already DSMX, and that only a software download for the Tx was needed to start using DSMX

It's even simpler than that!

EVERY SINGLE AR8000 EVER MADE IS DSMX-capable. Same with AR6255 and AR600.

Every DSMX receiver will work with every DSM2 transmitter and every DSMX transmitter, but in DSM2 mode.

Every DSM2 receiver will work with every DSM2 transmitter and every DSMX transmitter, but in DSM2 mode.

It's only when you use a DSMX-capable transmitter and receiver together that you get DSMX mode. With the DX8, you can force it to run in DSM2 mode if you choose, but if you just leave it in DSMX mode you won't have to do anything other than re-bind to use DSMX with your AR8000.

Awesome! Thanks for all the posts! On the dx8. How do I make sure I am running in dsmx mode as you mention it could be switched?

On the front screen, in the top right corner, it tells you how it is bound.

Use the Frame Rate screen to force DSM2 if you want to, or allow DSMX if the rx supports it.

YOU MUST RE-BIND AFTER CHANGING THINGS ON THE FRAME RATE SCREEN FOR THEM TO BECOME ACTIVE!

I just got my new DX8. Where do you plug in the rec battery? Aux 1, 2, or 3? The bind/data port needs to be left open for the TM1000. I guess I can't read anymore, because I can not find the info in the manuals.

Next stupid question. How do you register the DX8 so the updates can be downloaded? Each time I go to www.spektrumrc.com and click on the register link, it asks for the type and I choose DX8 (SPM8800), then a user ID and Password comes up. So I click on Register a New Account. Nothing happens. Any help?

Sounds like a browser problem to me.

When you go here: https://community.spektrumrc.com/

you need to click on the REGISTER button. That will pull up a screen like this:

Notice that "Radio" is one of the last fields you enter.

If your radio is already version 2, there are no downloads to get yet. However, registration is simpler because you can copy/paste the serial number that's in the My_DX8.xml file that you can EXPORT from the Serial Number screen. Eventually this will be even easier; we're working on that.
