Reversing "Y" connector goes nutty!!

Reversing "Y" connector goes nutty!!
I got a new reversing "Y" connector and when I plug it in and turn everthing on, it will go hay wire around center posistion. It is fairly close to the reciever, but not like its right on top of it or nothing. I dont know how far to put it, but I mean it gets crazy, and sometimes it will go all the way to the up posistion and stay! Not good!
What gives?
