I have two that came with my JR11X radios.

They seem very good, mine are DSMX capable.

The only issue I found is that one of them had the bind port incorrectly labelled - it was on the wrong end of the pins.

Gave me an hour of total frustration because I thought it was faulty, but once I figured it out the RX has been great.

Here is how to tell if yours is binding in DSMX or DSM2 mode. (not obvious with JR as there is no TX indication like Spektrum)

JR 921 receivers are DSM2 only. They will work with a DSMX transmitter, because it is backwardly compatible with DSM2 receivers, but the DSMX transmitter switches to DSM2 to communicate with the JR 921 receiver. I have a couple of them.

Respectfully disagree.

Made the following video of mine just now and they definately bind in DSMXmode.

No doubt earlier models were DSM2 only, I have two... one is clearly marked with the X - but even the one marked with DSM2 definately binds in DSMX mode as the video shows.

I suspect that JR may have started building DSMX capable rx's before it was announced as Spektrum did with a couple of their rx's like the AR8000's were all labled DSM2 when they were released even though they were DSMX capable. IIRC the other rx was the AR600???

Any way, the older R921's will definitely not bind in a DSMX mode.

Maybe Andy will chime in and clear up the confusion?

I think you're correct, they were released before they were announced, I have some that will go either way.

But to answer the OP, yes, they are a very good receiver, I have them in several models including a couple of large gassers and they work just fine.

The original JR 921 Rx is DSM2

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jr_r921_9...81195_prd1.htm

The JR 921X is apparently DSMX

http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...eiver-JRPR921X

I was not aware that there were two versions.

The JR 10X does support the use of a Spektrum DSM2 module but not the JR DMSS module

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11.../printable.htm

I believe you are limited to 8 or 9 channels because not all 10 channels on the 10X support the PPM protocol which the Spektrum module requires.

I have had zero issues with the original JR 921 red case 2.4 rx. Sent back for check up, Horizon upgraded the firmware, N/C. R7000's working great. I purchased a new R921X rx recently. It will bind, then shut it all down, power up, is on for a bit, then the satellite rx starts to blink. Shut all down, re-bind, all OK. Shut down again, power up, loses bind. I am using the bind port on the rx. Going thru JR HD charge switch, 2100 mah 6V Ni-Mih, fully charged.
Never had a bind problem with JR rx's in the past.
Comments appreciated.

try a new wire between the main and sat rx. Perhaps the blinking light on the sat indicates a power glitch to that RX.

Fizz - You were right. Heres the skinny. I have been using JR HD charge switches for years. This time, 3 switch harness' on this plane, I decided to try something else, and save about $12.00 per switch. I will not reveal who I bought these switches from, popular supplier, and I am sure they do not make them in house. I put them in this new 35cc 26% Pilot Yak. I had to trim the male plugs on the switches, to fit into the 921X receiver, and they tell you that on the info that comes with the switches. After doing that, and being hard to insert, and pull out, it did not pass the smell test for me. I replaced them with the JR HD's on the receiver-battery packs. I left the third one on the ignition, which I will now change out to JR's.

Back to your suggestion. I had been using one of the "other" switch harness', binding the receiver, outside of the plane. The blinking sat. rx light : "loose wire", on the switch harness. The wire inside the male plug, one of them pulled loose, working part time. Whew ! I just replaced it with a JR HD charge switch, and binded perfect. This could have had serious consequences in flight.
All is working fine now, even the bind lights in the rx's are brighter.
Thanks Fizz,
Vince.
