futaba 9c throttle cut
I need help in steps to assign throttle cut function to Switch F (the spring return switch on the upper left bottom.
I don't see that as an option in the throttle cut menu, but I know folks on here have done it
thanks.

Hmmm..not sure where you are looking but under the throttle cut menu at the bottom you just assign the switch to f and then page down one more and change that to down..

Just wondering, why would you use a spring load switch for throttle cutting? I am a rookie and have been using switch A becouse it ergonomicly makes sence to me. Is there an advantage to using F?

To me its just more convienient and you dont have to worry about it being on by accident. Just push it down to cut the throttle and then its automatically back off..

Im glad you mentioned idle down...Ive been trying to see the advantage in this feature. If you set your idle speed with the elec trim to the lowest point so it wont quit, why do you need the idle down? If the trim is set correctly you can throttle back with the stick and not worry about it quitting. To me its just an extra step thats not needed.

I use the spring loaded switch for throttle cut also. I use the switch in front of "F" for idle-down. Idle down is used to keep the idle setting up on the engine that would normally be to high for landing. The reason for the high idle in flight is to help ensure that the engine remains running in low motor manouvers such as stallturns and tail slides. This really makes since when you consider the cost of some of todays larger models.

I agree with "The Rebel".
I use idle down also as my "normal" idle .... then my normal idle is "high idle"....... works great and keeps the engine from stalling in the air.
Then I assign the engine cutoff to a separate switch that is "out of the way" when I fly.
So many choices .... so little time (experience).
These computer radios are great !!!!!

I use idle-down on my engines that require it, but some of my engines are very reliable at low RPM and don't need a flight idle. When I use idle-down I use the small switch in front of the spring-loaded "F" switch. I don't use the three position switch for idle-down and cutoff becuase I think it would dramatically increase the odds of me accidentally killing the engine in flight.

Ryan, good point. D'oh! You just jinxed me! I run a high idle on my 2-stroke glow engines cause they're kinda cranky in the winter until you run them for a few minutes and they warm up to a few hundred degrees. I'll probably just leave it on high for startup this summer and use Idle-Down the rest of the time.

RE: futaba 9c throttle cut
Ryan,
Remember, throttle cut won't kill your engine above a certain stick point, so its' not quite such a worry but, sa everyone has said, there are lots of choices in this radio to make it so the user can make things work just how s/he likes. There are VERY FEW features in this radio that can't be switch assigned to fit the users personal style.

Another reason I use the spring loaded F switch is if your coming in for a landing and need to decrease speed you can just "blip" the swithch and the plane will slow down nicely. Works good.

How do you guys make adjustments to the hi and lo idles ? Uisng the dial knob as mentioned in the 9C manual ? I found that it is possible to adjust the lo and hi idles on the 9C using the throttle trim, and there's no need to go into the idle down menu (except to activate it and assign the switch). Just flip the switch to lo or hi and adjust the trim accordingly. This is not mentioned in the 9C manual, unless I have an outdated one. Very convenient in the field

Throttle trim only adjust the high idle. To adjust idle-down you have to go into the menu.
