quote]No doubt the manufacturers are making a killing on this stuff....Futuba is dragging their heels on the Freq. Synth at the expense of market share to Hitec...and now Tracker II. [/quote]

I just bought the Tracker II and it is phenomenal . I was feverishly searching for a receiver to work with my Hitech radio, but the problem is solved , with out changing any components, the Tracker II's receiver tunes itself to the Hitec transmitter's crystal...... WOW ! because of my ignorance about synthesized TXs and RXs I was shocked when I did it. The manufacturer of the tracker II is right next to the city I live. There prices for every thing so far , is beating out allot of competition . I spoke to one of the manufactures of the radio system (engineer) and the new tracker will be coming soon. So as far as swapping crystals...........No worries here

So when I buy a new reciever and request a freq. the crystal comes in a small bag. I then have to take the reciever to an expert and have the crystal install?
I have changed the reciever crystal in the past with out any problems! I've been unaware of a potential problem. Is there one. Or is this discussion about changing tranmitter frequencies?

This discussion regards the transmitter only - recivers are not a problem - have at it! The only thing to note there, is that if you have a vendor like Futaba who has high and low tuned receivers, you need to stay in that "segment" unless it is retuned. Mfgs. like JR who don't suffer such nonsense, you are free to go to any channel in the band with no retuning.

Well noted modeler J_R finally got to the bottom of this the old fashioned way, he worked! FCC says no crystal swapping as does the AMA. Hope this helps put an end to this silly debate (but I also hope the Easter bunny will bring me something nice)

I appreciate J_R's efforts, but it's not a silly debate and I don't think the FCC or AMA's comments put an end to it at all. From a strict interpretation of the FCC text, apparently nobody is authorized to change crystals - not even a Futaba/JR/Hitec service center.

I read it as anyone but the end user can change the crystal. So I guess I can take it to the nearest radio and TV repair place and have them change the crystal. The last one I went too had several certifications posted on their wall. What kind of certification does it take? Why the mystery?

Please forgive me if this has been posted before-
this is one of the only thing I have yet read so far that shed light on why it's ok to change tx crystals in the UK but not in the US (besides the 'cause they said so' reason)-
[link=http://www.bergent.net/crystals.html]berg's blurb on tx crystals.[/link]

I guess this only applies to FM, so I may still get some non end user to swap my futaba attack for me- like my 8 mo old son...
