401 gyros on 3D plane
I have a couple 401 gyros I was thinking of temporarily robbing from a couple of my helis and putting in one of my 3D profile planes. One on rudder and one on elevator. I am at the point I can hover reasonably well on one of my planes but I still have trouble when torque rolling and harrier rolling. I thought it might be cool to try them for a weekend or so and see if they will hover/torque roll hands off so to speak. Since my 9C doesn't have gyro programming on the airplane side, I thought I could just set the sensitivity with ATV on channel 5. I also wondered if I could tie both together on the channel 5 line or should I set them separate and use channel 7 also?
There is a flyin this weekend and I thought it would be cool to have gotten "A LOT" better since last event
After the flyin, both gyros will go back in thier helis where they really belong!
Thanks,,,Matt

Best way to 3D better is to burn fuel...manually.

Besides..we would never let him live it down if he didn't take them back out!

Damn, busted
No sense doing it now cause Auger will have already told everybody!

They are installed and ready to go. I was going to test them this afternoon but it's blowing about 20-25 mph right now. Maybe it will die down a bit around 7 or so. I don't want to test them at Jeff's.

Well, I don't know what to do different. The rudder seemed to be okay but wouldn't hold anything like it does on a heli. The elevator wouldn't settle down. I took off and it started oscillating fairly fast. I cut back the gain and it quit oscillating, till I slowed the plane down and then it started again. I kept adjusting the gain till it was nearly off but it would still oscillate off and on. I tried HH mode but it did the same thing. It was down to 30% gain to get it to quit but then it was like it had no effect. I came down and adjusted the delay pot but it didn't seem to make a difference. I will pull the gyro out of the elevator channel but leave the one on the rudder and try it some more. It definitely didn't do what I expected it to. I had visions of pulling the plane up into a hover and setting the tx down and watch it torque out a tank
Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained! Matt

I wouldn't guarantee we know for sure, but we know I couldn't do it
I have pulled out the gyro on elevator and did some programming on the rudder so I can make more adjustments in-flight and shut it down if it doesn't work any better. It's not going to be real easy to get it out of the plane without making a "special tool".
