A second Radio?

A second Radio?
My son and I are both flying from a Futaba 9CAP. The number of models we have is growing, and with the obvious limitation of not being able to fly at the same time, I am considering the option of picking up another radio. I have plans to add 3 models in the near future (winter projects in Wisconsin need to cover about 11 months...) and will have to buy new electronics for same. I am very interested in the JR 9303. Are there any drawbacks to owning both JR and Futaba? Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

RE: A second Radio?
If you're using FM/PPM receivers then the disadvantage would be that the Futaba and JR transmitters will not operate each other's receivers because JR is positive shift and Futaba is negative shift.
Of course if you're using PCM then they'll still be incompatible.
The alternative is to consider something like a Hitec Optic 6 which offers shift-select that will make it compatible with *any* FM/PPM receiver -- but then again if you want to fly PCM you'll need to buy a Hitec PCM receiver.
So many choices -- so little money :-)

If you and your son want to fly at the same time then get the new radio on a different channell. The 9303 has many new mixs in the radio and will let you fly very complex planes. You will never out grow the radio. Dennis
