Default A question re.4.8v & 6v rx batteries

Todate,I have been using (2)-4.8 rx packs in my planes.I use two switch harnesses and plug both batteries into the rx.RE.6v rx packs.--I have been told it is best to use battery isolators such as sod by 1-4c,when using 6v rx packs,as there is a possibly of melting solder joints-or whatever in the rx,if you plug the 6v pack directly into the rx,and that you should use only 4.8v pack plugged into the rx and use the 6v for the servos only,by way of a bat isolater. Any and all comments would be appreciated.thank you. Bob R.

There is no danger of melting any printed circuit board lands by plugging in a 6v battery vs a 4.8v battery.

Where the concerne comes from is if you have a large number of servos which requires a higher current draw than the lands in the RX can safely provide. In that case a battery isolation system is desirable for servo power to take the servo load off of the RX circuitry. You can overload the RX lands on a 4.8v system, or an 6v system.

Default A question re.4.8v & 6v rx batteries

Thanks Vince for the info. The # of servos that I use in one plane is usually 4,except for a couple of warbirds and they will have 6 servos (flaps & retracts); All are 70 to 100 in.oz.of torque. One more question, what about plugging in a 6v & 4.8 into the rx,or do they have to be the same voltage??Thanks again. Bob R.

The number of servos you are talking about should not be problem. I am running 10 servos with no problems. You cannot plug in battery packs of differing voltage. You can use battery packs of different capacity as long as the voltage is the same.

You need to visit Red's battery clinic in the Battery forum.
