Default deans whip antenna

I've seen the deans whip antenna used on helicopters but has anyone used one on a plane?
Thanks,

Bud

I have one on a Wayne Siewert KI-84 Frank which has a carbon fiber fuselage. The receiver is a Futaba R-129 DP. The Transmitter is a Futaba 9ZAPS WCII and has more than 250 ft antenna collapsed range. Flight range is as far as it is practical to see. I use a Deans connector to hook up to the stub antenna coming from the receiver.

Gremlin Castle,
Why the deans connector? Isn't the supplied connector sufficient? I have the Dave Patrick super cub and was considering using the whip. I'm using the futaba super 8 radio. Where is yours placed, in the fuse or exposed? Thanks,
Bud

Forgot to mention...that's a sweet looking plane!

I know of a lot of people that have used them, I'm just sharing that I did not have good luck with the one I used. You need to cut your antenna of the receiver to a certain length (mine was a hitec 555) and solder it (or use a connector) to the whip.

I only got a range check of about 30 paces with the antenna collapsed, and I'm normally over 50. This was with a Futaba 8uafs transmitter.

Theres too many people using them with good success, I must have gotten a bad one or something.

Thats a very nice Ki-84 Frank, Gremlin Castle. I've had the privledge of touring Wayne's shop and watching them lay up some tail pieces. Pretty awesome line of production they have, and excellent quality.

Their connector works just fine. I just happened to change out receivers and that was what I had on hand to use for the connector. Look at the picture and you will see a small black dot about 3" behind the canopy. That is the insulator, thewhip doesn't show up well in this picture.

I've used them on planes, funny the airplane guys always ask me, "is that some new antenna", I tell them it's for helicopters, but they work great on planes too...

I think my ship came in and rammed the dock wrecking it and then drifted back out in the harbor where it sank blocking the shipping channel.
I think that you would be more than happy with anything that Wayne produced.

Used with no problems on both Q40 and Q500.
