Default Transmitter Batt ?

I have a Futaba 6EXA FM radio. I'm interested in changing the battery over to Lipo... Is this possible?

I suppose you "could" but $101 seems a bit steep for a Tx battery

I just upgraded mine to a 2300mAh NiMh battery and it lasts all day

I bought mine from www.radicalrc.com

I have to agree with exeter_acres. I have 1600 MaH NiMH's in my transmitter. I have 3 planes in that radio. I've been to the field with two of the plane, and had a total of 9 flights between both planes, and I still had transmitter battery power left. The transmitter really doesn't draw that much juice. Especially not enough to justify spending that much for batteries. I can see that much in a reciever battery, but not the transmitter.

Hope this helps

that alot of money for a tx battery. there are only so many hours in a day to fly. get a quick charger for the feild and keep the nicd, or get a couple nimh batterys and save the lipo for the plane and or electric power

I suspect that eventually Lipo's will come down in price, and a TX would be a great application, since you could put in the same kind of safe charging circuits you find in things like cell phones. Then you wouldn't have to worry about melting down your TX or anything like that. Too bad so much of the RC gear industry is so backwards.

Going Nimh makes more sense right now, with our current gear setup.

$100 to $130 for only 1300mAh??!! They are freaking nuts!

I made my own 9C TX pack out of 2400mAh AA NiMH cells for my own TXs, and a couple of friends of mine. I can just about fly all day and still have juice at sunset.

I've seen some newer AA NiMH cells that are pushing 2500 and even 2600 mAh.

Man I only use 600mAh pack in my 9X. I always take multiple planes to the field, fly more than most and have never had to stop early due to a flat battery.

It depends on what I am flying how long the 600mah battery in my JR8103 lasts. With my planes I can get 2-4 flights, with my Raptor 50 1-2 flights is all. I have field charger that I use to resolve this issue, especially since the 1000mah battery in my heli is good for only 1 flight, it might have enough for 2, but I am not taking that chance. When I replace the battery I will get an 1800mah or higher for the Tx, but not a li-po. Those cost so much I use them only in my 3D park flyers.
