auto or manual transmission? Gas or diesel?

My point was that, unless someone is paying you to use their radio, it is simply a matter of personal preference.

If one must resort to name calling, they have lost credibility IMO, and anything one may have posted, even if truthful, will be discounted by most who read these threads. There is no reason to ever drop this low (post 25), especially over something as silly and worthless as JR vs Futaba. I'm sure your famous friends feel honored to live so close to you.

Mike McConville and I have been talking alot, and hes told me, that it truly is the best (JR) "Feel the Difference!!"
Gee wizz: Mike was flying a 9Z while he was a member of our club. Then he went to Horizon and started the JR bandwagon. Give me some money and I'll tell you that Airtronics is the best system, ain't that right Chip

RE: Futaba or JR?
I have been flying Futaba for about 30 years now. I have a very good friend that also flew Futaba his entire life. He is a 'influential' pilot of high skill and some fame. He now uses JR. You might say it is coincidental that he is also now a JR rep and gets his JR equipment for free. His influence caused several of the 'guys' in our group to switch to JR. The two guys that I know switched have both told me that they still like Futaba better but now they are too heavily invested in JR gear to switch back.
My opinion:
The 9CAP can't be beat for options and price. The 14MZ can't be beat at any price. JR costs more than Futaba for what you get and what you need. I won't be switching from Futaba any time soon unless JR comes out with a radio that is heads and tails better than Futaba and costs less. I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. My last 30 years with Futaba have been good and I expect more of the same.

RE: Futaba or JR?
Just adding my biased opinion, I fly a JR PCM10 and a 6102.
I've had many radios over the years, the switchover is always painful. In the last 10 years I've gone from Airtronics to Hitec to Futaba to JR. Why do I fly JR? I like the programming, I like the feel. I think both brands are reliable. I used to teach a lot, many of my past students are now instructors and I help out with setups of their equipment. I've always found Futaba menus a bit confusing, especially since they change their approach with just about every new model released. I also don't appreciate the fact that they keep changing their trainer cord design, it gets tough to setup anyone to take them through stuff.
The 9CAP seems quite versatile but, it doesn't do anything that even my backup JR6102 won't ... that I need.
I've been eyeing up the new 9x II, mostly because it has all the features I need and the price is definitely right.
I've been wondering if the "feel difference" is related to the fingers vs. thumb flyers debate. I fly with the finger-n-thumb pinch grip and notice most why fly JR locally, also do. Most thumb flyers I know prefer Futaba.

RE: Futaba or JR?
Steve in post #7 really stated something that is true. All the current systems are rock solid for what we do. Pick one out and use it, the true key to these systems is familiarity with the radio. Programming is an issue with all these systems until you understand the logic. Most guys I know do not use all the capabilities of these high end systems to begin with, so its hard to use a 4 channel guy utilizing a couple mixes as a fair opinion as to why I'm an idiot for using a 9Z. I have a fair amount of time with the 10X, 8103, 6102, 9C, 9Z, 8uaps and some Hitec programming. Whatever you use the more you use it the easier it becomes. The more I learn the more I appreciate my 9Z, its really easy to program if you work with it. Its a more complex and more flexable system that the 10X. Just another opinion',

RE: Futaba or JR?
Futaba is a little cheaper and as high quality as JR. This extends to batteries. servo extensions, servos, tx antennas, etc. In other words you'll probably get more for your buck with Futaba.
With that in mind---
Buy what ever your LHS supports the strongest or whatever is most popular at your local club. Tough to have to wait for a servo arm for your xyz radio when the LHS has it for the abc.
As far as Futaba changing stuff all the time, consider that perhaps Futaba is listening to their customers and trying to be more focused on their needs and improving the product.
Those that complain about constant changing of the product would complain just as loud about no change in the product and it being "behind the times".
JR, Futaba and Hitec are widely supported and very popular. You can't go wrong with any of them.
