Default Yes you pay extra for this noise

This is normal for the digital servos. sounds like buzzing. it is the servo being pulsed very frequently.

Default 8411 noise

They do make a buzz/hum if they're working a little.

The noise can also tell you there's just a little binding in the system that prevents the surface from returning to exactly neutral,
Couldn't hurt to check... will save battery life too, if that's the case.

JR 8411's tend to whine alot. I had a couple on the tail of my Giles, the noise was so annoying that I had to get rid of them.

Default Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The buzzing indicates that there is some force working against the servo when it's on. You can make the buzzing stop by lifting a control surface so it doesn't put any pressure on the control rod. Big birds buzz like crazy, especially when there are multiple servos on the same surface and they aren't perfectly matched.

Bottom line, completely normal characterstic for a digital servo.

Normal yes, but when they buzz they are pulling more current, the louder the buzz the more current.

The 8411s have a very small tolerance at center, just the weight of a flying surface could pull enough to make them buzz.

Anyone have suggestions on when the gears should be replaced due to increased slop?

Default slop

Mine have developed some slop after a lot of use, but not so much I need to go out and replace the whole gear train. I've found that by replacing the single nylon relief gear (about a $2 part) I cut out about half the slop.
