Using a gyro to run a servo standalone
I am making a science project involving gyros. basically I want a gyro coupled with a servo to balance a cup of water. I took the GWS PG-03 gyro off my heli and a servo from an old car and hooked them up, plugged the gyro into a rx. w/ no crystal and added a battery... NOTHING! The gyro powers up and is sensing motion (little blinky light changes when I move it) but it is not driving the servo. I don't know If I am doing this correctly, I know the servo works but I have not flown the heli in a long time. Could the gyro be broken? How do I get a gyro to drive a servo without any radio input from me (ie. I tilt the assembly, the gyro corrects and moves the servo to keep the load level)

RE: Using a gyro to run a servo standalone
You need a "center" signal feeding into the gyro. A simple pulse generator supplying a 1,5 ms pulse 50 times per second would do it (or you could use a cheap servo driver fixed in the center position)

RE: Using a gyro to run a servo standalone
Would something like this: http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/archive/servo4.htm work, and where would I put it? in front of or between the gyro and servo? Thanks.
