Default 9C - VR Knobs and Sliders...

Hi,

I just received a Futaba 9CAP this past X-mas to replace my first radio which was a 6XAS. The 6XAS is a very capable system, but I found myself needing more model memory, ( 6 just isn't enough for this addicting hobby ), and it also lacked support for a split elevator setup I had needed for my Skybolt. So, I've been programming the new 9C with all my models off the 6XAS and I have found it very easy and intuitive to setup. However I do want to ask what functions others are using the variable rate VR knobs and sliders to control? I am using one of the sliders ( VR-D) to control my Flaperon function on a couple of planes, but still have three knobs and the other slider which I cannot see any immediate use for.
Can anyone share what functions they might assign to these controls? Any other tips and tricks or special functions you assign to certain positions? Just trying to get some ideas on what others are doing with their aircraft setups.

Thanks,

I never use any of the sliders or knobs on mine, but if you have a gas plane, use one for choke. This allows for a mid choke setting for when the engine is being warmed up. I have also used it and a switch for setting mixes. It is complicated but allows you to adjust P mixes while flying without going through the menu screens.

I also use the slider for flaperons... and on one plane the other slider for my choke servo (gas engine)
as for the knobs.. I haven't used them for airplanes yet, but for heli... they can adjust my throttle and pitch curves "on the fly" as it were....

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The switch to knob for adjusting mixes sounds interesting. I'll have to play around with that one. I don't have any gas planes (YET), but a slider for the choke sounds like a perfect idea. I forgot about the heli uses. They probably find more uses for the knobs than us aero guys.
I must say I do like the 9C a lot. Even the little things like the count up/down timers, and the fact that the sliders beep once to let you know your at the center point is great when using the flaperons. Anyone using the "Idle-Down" and "Throttle-Cut" on the three position switch as the manual recommends? I tried that on the first model I converted over from the 6XAS last weekend and found it worked out great. UP for starting and normal flying (slightly higher idle at full back stick), MIDDLE for even lower idle (taxi or slow approach), and DOWN for engine shutdown.
Keep posting your favorite mixes and settings please.

Thanks,
