Looking for a 7-9 Ch
I don't know for sure which one to get... I think the futaba 7 ch... I want to buy a radio that I can have for a good 10-15 years.. I was thinking the 7ch futaba one.. are there any other radios out there with futaba quality that are 7-9 channels?? i don't want to spend over like $275 so It hink I might have to keep it down to the 7ch.. BUT...if you guys think that a 9ch would REALLY be a PLUS to me in the future, let me know I might be able to fork over some more moola for it...
I will be flying sport/aero/3D planes ...also I MIGHT...MIGHT fly helis in the future too.

G'day Mate,
There is only one choice really, & that is a Spektrum DX7, not much more money, but you could save that because there won't be any unexplained radio interference crashes or some dumb bum turning on his TX while you are flying & shooting you down.
Just the facts Man Just the facts!!!!!!

Yep! Been flying mine since it first shipped. About 25 flights now with no problems. Just bought 2 more receivers. I just heard Spektrum anounced a bunch of plugin modules for Futaba, Hitec, and JR for around April delivery. Also a 9 channel spektrum. The big three are gonna founder if they dont get on the ball.

This is really awsome news, as an owner of a Futaba 9C it looks like I will have "options" [8D] I have no real brand loyalty to futaba, so considering the Horizon/Spektrum/ JR module is a very real option for me. I like the idea of the module so I don't have to convert my entire Air Force in one shot, that fleet ranges from larger glow powered down to a Slow Stick, so the already available AR6100 at $49 looks sweet.
I plan to attend the WRAM show this Saturday, it may be a mob scene at the Horizon booth, as the "other" module system is not going to be there

Love2FlyMN,
It is a turbulent time for transmitter right now. I suspect that Futaba is not far off with, 1) new 9+ channel 2.4ghz transmitter, and 2) modules to upgrade existing radios. Rumors are also out there of a JR entry to 2.4ghz. If waiting is an option, I would sit back for a couple of months to see what shakes out. Otherwise, the DX7 is a good choice to start with especially since you don't have to upgrade any existing equipment.

RE: Looking for a 7-9 Ch
Well your specification was 10-15 years. Thats a long time. How will your skills progress over that period? What will you choose to fly 10 years from now? What other technologies will come out between now and then?
If you stick to casual sport flying and don't get into large scale or pattern, the DX7 is a good choice. 7 channels give you the standard 4 + dual evevators, dual ailerons, and landing gear or gives you a 4 servo wing so it will do a lot, but not everything. If you get into pattern, or larger scale flying, I think you will find the DX7 limiting you in some areas.

G'day Mate,
By limit, we mean, that as the planes become more complex, more channels are needed to fly them, you need mixes & duel elevator servos & so on, so get a DX7 now & it will be a very long time before you grow out of it.

RE: Looking for a 7-9 Ch
If I make enough money to fly giant planes I'll surely have enough money to buy a new radio to go with it.. I think 7 channels is going to be enough... ALSO I was at the hobby store today and the guy said a lot of ppl don't want to use the spektrum radios cuz the range isn't very far on them, so most ppl only use them for flying park flyers .. what's the range on these?? if it's not far I'll stick with the range of a traditional tx
