Default JR 378 Transmitter with Futaba R138DF Receiver

I've recently switched to a JR 378 radio from my trusty Futaba FF6. I've got a load of Futaba receivers / servos. If I use Futaba Crystals in the receiver, JR crystals in the transmitter, can I safely mix the gear? I've tried it in the workshop with no apparent problems, but have yet to try a flight.

Thanks,

Matt - that's the right way to do it. Futaba crystal in Futaba Rx, and Jr crystal in Jr Tx. Mixing JR with Futaba shouldn't be a problem in the UK.

Some people may jump in here to say JR and Futaba don't work together, or you shouldn't change Tx crystals, but that's only in North America. Since you are in the UK, don't wory about it. It is legal in the UK to swap Tx crystals, and all the radios utilize the same frequency shift, making them fully compatible.

Default JR-Futaba

Just for general information, radios in North America on ham frequencies, 50 MHz, also will mix. It is only the 72 MHz radios that have different shifts. My JR 8103 on channel 09, 50.98, will work with a buddy's Futaba 6 channel receiver on the same frequency.

Why do they have the different shifts anyway?

Marketing. They'd prefer to lock you into their brand. As people get more and more gear it becomes more and more expensive to replace all of your old receivers, which keeps people buying brand X.
