Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
Now Hobby City is selling them, 8 channels, $29.99
Helloooooo! Are this guys ever going to stop? I can see a Futaba ROM upgrade in the future to disable them. And so it goes....

RE: Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
If they should upgrade then they would have to upgrade all the receivers that were sold prior to the upgrade and that would make alot of folks unhappy. I don't think so.

RE: Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
I think i'll join the late adopter queue for those Futaba clones.
o maybe I'll use them in my park flyers for now. At $30 ea I can buy 2 for the price of one R6106HFC.
However, I doubt Futaba will upgrade the reciever code now. They'll just introduce a new line of recievers with bi- directional communications capability. That will sort that out. Then HK will serice the older FASST and Futaba will still be a step ahead with FASSTer...
(see what I did there)

RE: Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
maybe its futaba feeling the competition from hitec Aurora 9 and its better priced receivers so futaba found a way to make their receivers sorry clones cheaper.
I'm no expert but if you break the FASST code and produce a clone you dont want to sell it that cheap.
I've been wrong in the past.

RE: Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
just got two in the mail today, the new ones come in plastic cases now. A little bigger than Futaba 617, but not much.
They also have a sticker that shows the numbers for the channels now.

If a Futaba upgradecould disable the Non-Futaba FASST receivers, wouldit not also disable the Futaba branded receivers ?
Is it possible that the so called "clones" are manufactured by the same manufacturer and better reflects the real cost of manufacturing ?
Wrap some of them in slightly different wrapping, put a well known name on them and double theselling price !!!
As often commented "you pay for the name and the marketing cost".
I remember the days when items having manufacturing costs less than $5.00 were sold for over #30.00 . We were even distributing some of the items for manufacturers that had no distribution capability.
Marketing is an art of maximizing profits.
Just thinking which I occasionally do .

Edited to say that the link from beto9 does not work.

A friend just received a couple of the HK FASST compatible receivers with the new orange cases and the servo slots are a little small. Servo plugs don't want to slide in. Had to relieve the case with a Xacto.

Given how many times you can use a receiver, or even switch it from one plane to another, is it really worth cutting corners?

You have to wonder! If they can't get the servo slots right, what about the rest of it. There's an old British saying: "Penny wise and pound foolish."

Besides I use a receiver in a plane till I am done with that plane. I only move it once the plane is hung away. That accolade belongs to my trainer. Servo's remain, battery and receiver are now in my BHExtra 300s.
For any servo's that need to be removed from the Rx I use a servo lead extension so I don't plug and unplug the leads continuously that just leads to wear on the connector pins and causes problems down the line.
If the casing is a little tight, well then I'll just have to trim a little won't I but the reports on the performance of the electronics shows the FrSKY (its not a HobbyKing unit btw) to be just as good as the Futaba R6008 receivers.
thats all I am interested in.

I hope the fun with the new receivers consists only of lots of flying (and not picking up pieces).

RE: Non-Futaba FASST receivers.
Thank you Woodie for reporting your experience...
HobbyKing is changing the dynamics of the hobby with prices and offerings. And my pocketbook (or credit card) is saying "Hey, thanks!"
I do not want the local hobby shop to disappear or the large number of North American manufacturers to fold but... the "Walmartization" of the hobby is spreading.
Besides, all the North American "manufacturers" already "manufacture" in China, Taiwan and Vietnam.
