Newbie needing Info
I came across this great site a few weeks ago and decided I wanted a RC car or truck. I'm completely new to this and would really appreciate some pointers to help me decide. I've been told that for a street car you need to have a smooth surface area without breaks in the road. The street in front of my house has breaks every 12 feet or so but is filled in with some black filler. What kind of clearance do the cars have? Would a 1/8" jump make the car crash?
Lastely, how much of a hassle is nitro cars to take care of?
Thank you.

Well, you can fix your suspension so 1/8" breaks dont effect your car.
I don't suggest you get a nitro powered car unless you have time to clean and tune and everything. It is a lot more hassle then an electric.
How much money are you willing to spend? Are you going to be racing or bashing?
You also might want to look at whats around you. Meaning if you have dirt, sand, rocks, off-road things you might want to lean to an off-road vehicle. If you get an on-road car and have nobody to drive it with it get boring, fast, real fast.

i was looking to spend roughly 300-600 hundred. i have the time to clean and tune everything but you made a good point about having a place and someone to run it with. plus come winter there will be snow on the ground for 6 months so i guess i better go with off road. thanks a lot for the info.
im leaning towards 2 off road cars now. the Traxxas T-Maxx 2.5 nitro and the schumacher Menace. anyone have some other good choices? gas not electric.

I kind of wish I picked up an offroad instead of two onroad cars. One nice thing about offroad is you can still run them on roads if you want to.
