Default O.S. .12 in a RS4 3SS

I've had my car for a year now, a rs4 3ss with the stock HPI .12 SS engine in it. My question is would it be better to upgrade to one of the O.S. .12 engines??
Would I see much difference over my current .12SS engine by going to a O.S. 12? Or would I just be better off re-sleeving the HPI .12SS and sticking with it?
Also, which one of the O.S. .12 will fit and drop right into the car? Thanks all

I changed my .12R SS for a .12R XS a little while ago and there is a huge difference.. i can leave peal out/dounght marks with foam on. the stock engine lack torque and it revs ok but a nice race engine will be huge difference.. if you get a OS.12 go for the TR with a threaded crankshaft, check out the .12R XS if you like

Thanks for the input. I was looking more at the CV-X or CV-RX since they are more in my price range of $100-130. Based on these two engine choice what would you recommend, staying with the stock HPI .12SS or going with one of these O.S. engine, and if so which engine do I need to get.
I would like an engine with more torque since the track I run at isn't very big and you hardly ever even get into second gear, would love some more bottom-end power.
Thanks for the help.

here are a few good engine in your range..

HPI .12R XS http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFAW3&P=0 130USD
OS.12CVR http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXA45&P=0 124USD,

most race engines are rear exhaust and pack real power, i was going to recomend the OS TR but they are nolonger made and most have no pull start so i say CVR12 is a good bet, should be fast but not crazy

I thought about going to a .18 but from what I've heard they are too much power for the car. I don't want to to break all my drive train parts or lose all my handling just for power. I figured a better/stronger .12 would be good since it can increase my power while maintaining the weight and handling I would like. If i'm wrong about a .18 please correct me though.

Would the:
OS.12CVR http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXA45&P=0 124USDO.

O.S. .12CVR be a big difference from the stock motor? Would it also be a direct drop in with little modification necessary?
In the end, would spending the money on a new motor be better than just re-sleeving the current stock .12SS engine? I'd love more power and especially more torque but if it doesn't make sense to spend the money I won't do it.

Thanks for all the great input so far!

why not, iv'e been usin a .12 cvrx in my rs4 3 for about a year now. works fine and its pretty quick. only problem i had was i had to shim the 2 speed up a little more so it would mesh with the the spur gears.

i think it was $130 and it is faster than my friends evo

don't worry a CVR18 won't blow you diffs, i know a goy with a Ofna .21 8-port in his Nitro MT1( same drivertrain) and people with cvr18's in them to, not to much power

Hey, i'm definently not against ever having "too much power" just want to make sure the car doesn't turn into a money pit with me having to replace a bunch of drive train parts due to the engine blowing them apart.
Also really concerned that with a .18 I'll lose the handling and it will make the car hard to drive around the track. Maybe I'm wrong, let me know if I am.

Default RE: O.S. .12 in a RS4 3SS

Well I've always wanted to get a .18 as long as it won't blow apart the car. Which one of the O.S. .18 should I get and are there any other things I should get to go along with it? Will the stock muffler and header I currently have work with the .18? Just any info regarding getting the .18 and all the things I need to make it work would be great.
Thanks.

I alwys think that if you can afford a $130 engine and the one currently in your car is working i would try to save up money to get a high-end engine because you are gonna get this engine and then i some time you are gonna want somthing even faster when you could have just waited a lil longer and gotten the high-end engine from the start

Well I don't ever see myself getting into serious racing. Just some racing at the local track which isn't all that huge and parking lot bashing. Well then maybe I'll get the .18 then. I might as well also get the heavy duty diffs since my current diff gears look plenty worn down. Along with getting some dogbones since I bent my current ones up at the track the other day.

I got a .12 cv-r(x) in mine and im very pleased cost more than the .18 but your drive train will like the .12 much better if you dont want to bother with drive train upgrades!

Yeah i'm trying to keep this engine between $100-130. So whatever engine will give better performance than the stock one and deliver good power while keeping the handling intact would be the best.
