Yah.... I was quite amazed as to how long a car can idle for on one tank....

I got 2 more tanks to idle then I can have fun

You don't need to idle them, idling you won't get temps up to what is considered ideal to expand the metals and tolerances. After the second idle tank, run it around slowly (half throttle ok, no more) for the third tank, let the engine use it's torque just a little bit, and try to get temps up to about 200, then cool it, lean it a bit and repeat aiming for over 200. Do a couple of tanks this way, maybe 3 and then start tuning. Just remember, cool it completely between tanks WITH THE PISTON AT BOTTOM DEAD CENTER!

ok... Im going to finish out idleing for the third tank and I will start driving it around.... so do I need to let it cool down between every tank I drive it after it is broke in?

nope, keep an eye on temps though. Don't let it run constantly 300+, when you've got it so it runs nice, see what temps are after one tank, then if theyre ok, run another, repeat, if you can get it run all day long at 290 or less, you're fine.

LOL, dude you are one of kind.

Poor engine!

I am glad your ordeal is almost over. I told you it was not the engine...

You will buy a new one and go through everything again. I mentioned, if I recall well, to do some reading, go to traxxas website, hpiracing, read, do some searching, get a boyfriend, I mean a friend to help you out on tuning etc...

When I go to break in my motor this weekend, how do I know that the piston is at BDC? Am I going to have to bust out the glow plug wrench?

I know.... psiturbo,... I also was curious, When I apply the brakes, it does a slide /180 deal?.... Is this normal?... I was driving it without the body during this time, I was wondering if with the body with the wing would this not happen, do I need to adjust how much the brakes, are pulled on the transmitter?....

I just couldnt imagine people racing like this doing 180's all over the place..

Magnus, if you did that it would be a sure sign of if it was at the bottom, but if your moter has decent compression when you try to do a rotation and it gets to that tight point where it takes more force to turn the fly wheel go back the other direction with the motor and you will feel it get tight going in the other way to, If im not mistaken I believe that point where it starts to tighten up during rotation is where it is trying to turn over, so of you go in between the two it should be fully open.... Make sense?

180 degree spins....you need to adjust you brakes a little less harsh, it sounds like you have a front one way diff fitted, these asre great for racing as the car corners better, but for beginers...like myself, they're a nightmare as when you apply the brakes, your only braking with the rear wheels, not the front...hence the spin. However with expensive radio gear this can be minimised, some even have ABS, that gets rid of this problem.

Personly i've stuck a solid front axle in my kyosho RRR, as it applies brakes to front and back that way, much easier to control.

Have fun, glad you got your engine sorted by the way.

If you have a front one way diff, that's the reason. You can use your controller to adjust the brakes, so that you don't lock the wheels completely when braking, but this won't help much if you have a front one-way. Do you?

Yeah like foxy said, adjust so it doesn't lock up your brakes...on your spektrum, its Button A on the grip handle (one near the back) click it to the left to change the end point of braking, so in effect you don't get as much braking power, but you wont lock up and spin.

Ive got the xr80 rtr version... I am not sure if I do or not... manual doesnt say much... and im new to this myself... is there a way to describe it?....

EDIT: I also had a question about the breakin, Engine tune... I have let the car idle a few tanks, like instructions said then I read the engine break in guide, and realized I needed the engine to run at certain temps for proper breakin... So I followed that guide I ran one more tank just kind of doing short speed passes, Then I ran another tank after that and opened it up a little bit more....

Now im ready for the tuneing part I guess...

Now I noticed on the guide it said that you have to adjust needles at certain engine temps.... but the last tank I ran was the first that I ran with the body on and I did not realize how much fuel was being blown out of the exhaust, the whole side of the car was covered in grime, and wet fuel... I realize that they get dirty, because I have owned a tmax 2.5 before but this was a bit excessive...

Now my question is that it seems really rich, because it acts sluggish on take offs, and when it gets to hi speed and the obvious fuel all over the car and body... does that mean that during my last 2 break in tanks the motor probably did not reach break in temps... so do I need to adjust the needles and re do the 2 break in tanks again?.... or do I get the car out there let it get warmed up then adjust the needle for initial tuneing after break in?...

Im confused becase the guide said engine needs to be tuned at driving temp... What do you guys suggest

Keep leaning it and running it for slow tanks until the temps are getting above 200, then start tuning. Start with the high speed needle, and read that tuning guide that HPI apollo linked you...

I did read it that was why I was wasking if I should lean it before I drive it... I have to go buy me a temp gun... I can see this will be a must have device...

I will probably pick one up over the weekend
