Default Tyres

Just bought some slicks for my TGX.
I don't really want to run slicks as I'll save them for when I need the extra handling. But wondering, how do these wear? Quick?
The reason I bought them though is that I can't find tyres for my car (prefer radials)
It's a Tamiya TGX. Does anyone know what size superten/nitro HPI rims/tyres are?
Inner/outer diameter, and width?
And do HPI rims fit on the Tamiya axle/hex joint?

Thanks

How fast they'll wear depends on how hard they are! Soft ones wear faster than hard ones. They wear exactly as fast as a radial made from the same rubber. Now as for the hexs, give me some time to investigate and I'll post later, ok?

Yeah that'd be great if you could get back to me
I have used other wheel/tyres on it from a friends car (no idea what it is, but is of similar size to the TGX and has center diff) and they fit. The rear where wider than the front too, and protruded through the body

HPI's hexs have sides 6mm long...I can't find the TGX's hex size so measure it and see if they're the same. If yes then every HPI wheel and tyre can fit your car.

Default RE: Tyres

Just measured mine
And they are about 7mm the sides
and the "diameter" is 12mm which is the same as HPI's size
I assume they are the same even though you stated 6mm? As it's a hexagon, and if it is 12mm wide/diameter than the sides would always be the same?
While doing that also noticed one wheel is badly cracked/bent so need some rims now for sure

HPI claims 6mm but I also think they are the same...go to the local shop with your car and see what rims fit! It's simple. Why don't you try foams?

Default RE: Tyres

They wear too quick
Plus it's more a basher than a racer for me
Also, I like the realism, and preferably want some radials for that
I am even looking at a new shell as my WRX STi one is cracked here and there, and want an AWD car (I found NSX, CLK DTM, Supra etc but they are all RWD. Found the Kure R33 GT-R which I wanted but didn't get, as it was on ebay and there was no insurance option). And for the GT-R I'd want wider rear rims and thinner fronts.

Actually I have a friends car and his wheels fit on mine. I don't know what it is, but it's blue anodized chassis, had a 15 engine in it, a Opel Calibra body, center diff and it's quite old now too. Also in the same scale/size as the TGX (not 1/8th, but bigger than 1/10th)
I am starting to think it might be an RS4 Super Nitro/Ten??

Well as I usually say get the Kyosho semi-slick tyre set (exactly the same hex)...they are preglued on white "spike" rims and they look awesome. Their grip is the closest thing I've ever seen to foams!!! Honestly!

Does Kyosho also make the same car size as the TGX and super nitro?

Tyres are impossible to find (on ebay). And anything that opens up my options would be great. The SNRS4 is an ideal measurement but I think running the RS4 wheels will make them stick out of the body (from seeing pics) as the TGX's offset seems pretty flush to the hub

Well the hexs are exactly the same as I mentioned...but kyosho tyres are smaller just like the HPI's 1:10 touring car ones. The inferno GT's have different a hex (bigger). Your car is 1:8?

Edit: It seems to be something between 1:8 and 1:10...that's why I'm asking...

It's stated that it's 1/8th but in reality it's just a supersize 1/10 as it's not quite as large as a 1/8th

If the hex is different that's ok, so long as the tyres fit. Either way, maybe I can just run Kyosho hex + rims?
But it's ok, wheels here and there I find some, but tyres is the thing... all I can find is slicks...

Why don't you like slick tyres? they are just fine...radials are better only when running on wet. And in some cases slicks wear off slower than radials...

Actually I didn't want to run slicks due to tyre wear + I like the realism of radial tyres
I wouldn't mind running slicks if my shell was of a full out track car... but alas it's a WRX STi
I found corvette shells for it... but not a fan of corvettes plus I want a AWD car shell (Evo,GT-R, STi etc)
I love jap cars

I've used slicks with a WRC body before...it doesn't look bad! Dont forget that WRCs run on slicks when they race in french road climbing (i think it's France...).

Looks pretty good your car!
Well it seems I might not have a choice but the car is really more a parking lot basher (but will be seeing track) as well
I'd prefer to find some radials, but at the least I can easily find slicks for the car which is good

Would these rims fit my car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HPI-S-Star-Whls5...QQcmdZViewItem

Size wise they are ok, but how is the hex?
And what tyres go on these? Is the Super Star an on or off road car?

These are the HPI super nitro's rims. They have the standard hex that HPI uses to all the 1:10 series. Each side of the hex is 6-7mm long.

So they'd fit without issues?
Where can I find the HPI tyres that go on these though? As ebay has none?
How about offset, should be ok?

I think you'll have to contact the HPI...or search at e-bay. I also am 99% sure that offset is fine and they'll fit just fine too...

Well, I guess that sort of takes away the wheel issue...
But tyres are also impossible to find for these

[X(] By the way, the car I posted above is my avioracing/GV with GV wheels and Super nitro's slick tyres! GV wide series tyres and rims fit the TGX!!! (narrow series tyres are too small)

For the HPI super nitro tyres also come as a separate part. I got the slicks separately (it was 8 years ago I think...[&:]). I don't know if they're still in the market.

Default RE: Tyres

Yeah it doesn't help though as so far the ONLY tyres that I can find are Tamiya slicks
Not super ten, no super nitro, no GV, no nothing

Though, I know that on another set (which I have used on my TGX) the rear tyres are really wide, and found out they are actually on road buggy tyres (Wild Hawg II something)
But when I say wide, I mean 50+mm or so, which I assume in reality is bad for handling?

Default RE: Tyres

Not necessarily...wider tyres with the proper camber/toe/caster angle adjustment may be better.

EDIT: Steering servo will have a difficult work to do steering those tyres if you use them at front too but a stronger servo instantly solves the problem.
