Default Which spark plug?

I went to my LHS to buy some glow plugs, and told him I run an OS #8 and he said it's not the right plug for me.
I told him I have a .15 engine (OS 15CV-RX) and run 20% nitro, 16% oil
He instead recommended I use an SH Super Glow Plug #3
http://www.fuyuanrc.com/en/detail.asp?id=13194
Anyway, I bought 2 and so far it seems to idle more stable but (and this might only be my idea) it seems to have lost some power

What plug should I be using?
And is the SH a good plug? He said being iridinium/platinum it will last much longer
It's almost summer here so temps are in the high 30's (about 100 F) but I run in the evenings when it's about 25 C

Default RE: Which spark plug?

I would think that most if not all major manufacturers are using the best materials available. Unfortanately I tried looking and no one is telling whats in them, or atleast I couldn't find it on O.S. or O'donnell websites. That plug seems to be rather in expensive so it couldn't hurt to try them. But, if your getting better performance with the O.S. plug then by all means stick to them. It the plug he gave you is hotter your car will probably idle better but generally fail earlier than a cooler plug. With a hotter plug you could probably lean it out just a touch as well.

Dude, in Cyprus the guys in LHS want to sell ONLY their products. In Cyprus there is only a guy who selling OS stuff, and that's my guy. He is in Limassol. Don't tell me that the hobby shop you visited is Nitro Hobbies?

It's not Nitro Hobbies, it's some other hobby shop near the centre
He had OS #8 plugs too but he didn't recommend them to me

I've been to Nitro Hobbies before and I must say the showcase is unimpressive

I would experiment with all of them and see which one works for YOU.

Well I have to say that I noticed smoother idle and easier starting with this SH plug in comparison to the OS 8
But less power (I think)

It may be a cold plug and is fine with the weather we have now. About losing power, when you replacing a glow plug, the engine ALMOST want a tuning again Try adjust the needles. Where are you having the prroblem? Acceleartion, top speed or both?

It's not a problem, it runs very well without issues but it just seems that it accelerates a bit slower
But even that I might be wrong you know? These things are so hard to gauge just by looking

I can understand when an engine loses power, you just must feel the engine Anyway, if your acceleration is a bit slow, then lean a little your LSN. If you overdo it, the idle will be unstable and it will bog while accelerating. Good luck

you have to understand, that OS have specific OS plugs, aka OS motors are designed to run a shorter plug, about 2 threads shorter than Mccoy, Nova, RB, SH etc plugs. When u put a long plug in it can cause the motor to detonate, because of the longer reach of the glow plug into the combustion chamber.

Id be going back to OS plugs mate, if the motor is detonating, that would explain the loss of power

It doesn't seem to be detonating and I did notice it's a bit longer
But couldn't I just run an additional washer?
The motor still has the head spacer in it so compression ratio isn't too high

Better puting an OS plug. I would not risk the life of my OS engines. What they done to me to tread them like that?

I'll give these a go and see from there
The OS plugs didn't last long for me though
After about a litre of fuel the engine would stall here and there, but run fine with a new plug
And one OS8 plug just completely stopped working one day!

That means you have tuning issues buddy. Your mixture settings are lean for some reason. A glow plug can hold up to 10 tanks.

So, what's the problem? I replace my plugs every 5 litres so i have a good performance always without having issues with tuning

Oups, make a mistake, sorry I meant 5 litres, not tanks, geez, if it was 5 tanks i would change engine. A not very long lasted glow plug maens that the engine is running lean

Pity you didn't change every 5tank otherwise I would have asked oyu to send your glow plugs that are worn
I don't know OS much (I love novarossi , RB and JP racing but I don't have 600euros for the engine on my motonica P8.0R I'll put a GRP wich is cheaper but same specs lol)

If your plugs are only lasting that long, then u have a large tuning issue, longest ive gotten out of a OS8 is 3 gallons in a TTR28, still lives to. U are either to lean and the heat of the cumbustion is melting your filiment or just burning away the platinum coating

Or you are to rich, and the oil in the fuel is burning to the filiment making it useless

The glow plug looks like new
But is a bit wet
And when I put the igniter on it (while the plug is in my hands) I can hear it sizzle and smoke up a bit
